8 MHSE10 International Water Issues (5 cr, summer) Seminar: 3 hours of seminar per week (invited lecturers, students) Main topics: recent developments in water related issues (presented by professionals and scientists from academic institutions and consulting agencies) water specific problems in home regions of students examples: water supply situation, effects of climate change, conditions of waste water management, management of floods and water related natural damages (tsunamis, landslides etc.) exchange of knowledge between students improve skills in presenting and writing Requirements to earn the cr: seminar paper (40 %) oral presentation (60 %) Aral Sea: impacts of upstream water use for agricultural purposes

22 MHSE09 Study Project (10cr, summer or winter semester) Lecture / Tutorial / Practical training: lectures on IWRM topics and project management issues given by lecturers from TU Dresden and UFZ (Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research) tutorials and practical training offered by different supervisors Main topics: develop solutions for water problems in a team of 2-3 students learn about and apply approaches from different technical disciplines (Integrated Water Resources Management IWRM) examples: restoration of the water supply of an urban area, planning of a water management structure, calculation of the water balance of a river catchment improve central qualification: define a project and work on it, report about work progress and final results, acquire skills in project management Requirements to earn the cr: 2 oral presentations (25 % each) written project work (50 %)
