7 MWW 16 Integrated Water Resources Management (5 cr, summer semester) Lectures/ Practical Training: Integrated Water Resources Management (Krebs et al.) Main Topics: IWRM as concept for water management Interaction btw. natural, technical and socio-economic aspects of water management System analysis and integrated modelling Requirements to earn the cr: Written Exam 60% Study works 40%

8 MHSE10 International Water Issues (5 cr, summer) Seminar: 3 hours of seminar per week (invited lecturers, students) Main topics: recent developments in water related issues (presented by professionals and scientists from academic institutions and consulting agencies) water specific problems in home regions of students examples: water supply situation, effects of climate change, conditions of waste water management, management of floods and water related natural damages (tsunamis, landslides etc.) exchange of knowledge between students improve skills in presenting and writing Requirements to earn the cr: seminar paper (40 %) oral presentation (60 %) Aral Sea: impacts of upstream water use for agricultural purposes

9 MHSE11 Circular Economy (5cr, summer semester) Lectures/Tutorial: Circular Economy - Waste and Resources Management (Christina Dornack; Christoph Wünsch) Main topics: sustainable development through conservation, reusing and recycling of resources Requirements to earn the cr: study work: oral presentation (30%), term paper (70%)

N.) one-day lab course plus evaluation of results (Burghardt) Main topics: types of aquifers, properties of aquifers forces and pressure in the subsurface laws of groundwater flow and some applications (e.g. groundwater wells) quantification of aquifer parameters in the laboratory evaluation of pumping tests transport of dissolved chemicals in groundwater incl. retardation and degradation overview of groundwater modelling Requirement to earn the cr: written exam (90 min) lab field modelling

20 MWW06 Treatment Plant Design (5 cr, winter semester) (instead of MHSE25 Drinking Water) Lectures (P. Krebs et al.): 2 lecture hours 2 lecture hours practical excursion Main topics: Planning & design of conventional treatment plants Operation, maintenance & renewal of conventional treatment plants Requirements to earn the cr: Written exam (135 min, 60%) Project work/protocol (40%)

Görner MHSE27 Climate Systems & Climate Change (5 cr, winter semester) Lectures/Pract.Training: 3 hrs. lectures, 1 hr. practical (Bernhofer, Fischer, Goldberg) Main topics: Climate system: components and interactions Climate models (selecting, using & interpreting CM) Requirements to earn the cr: written exam

22 MHSE09 Study Project (10cr, summer or winter semester) Lecture / Tutorial / Practical training: lectures on IWRM topics and project management issues given by lecturers from TU Dresden and UFZ (Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research) tutorials and practical training offered by different supervisors Main topics: develop solutions for water problems in a team of 2-3 students learn about and apply approaches from different technical disciplines (Integrated Water Resources Management IWRM) examples: restoration of the water supply of an urban area, planning of a water management structure, calculation of the water balance of a river catchment improve central qualification: define a project and work on it, report about work progress and final results, acquire skills in project management Requirements to earn the cr: 2 oral presentations (25 % each) written project work (50 %)
