2 Need for the programme Management of water resources is a complex task, the scope importance of which continue to grow. For centuries, hydraulic engineering has made the water resources available for domestic, industrial agricultural purposes, for recreation many other human uses. Hydraulic engineering is the branch of civil engineering that covers planning, design, management operation of water supply distribution systems, flood drought control, hydraulic hydrologic aspects of environmental issues, application of remote sensing data to hydrologic environmental problems. Hydraulic engineering has always been a leader in the use of the latest technology. Technological innovation is of great importance in the practice of hydraulic engineering. Innovations include modern simulation models that make detailed flow processes their complex interactions with other environmental processes easily understable, use of modern electronics for data gathering in the laboratory the field many other tools such as satellite photography, global-positioning satellites, geographic information systems, data transmission, lasers for laboratory field measurement, etc. Hydraulic engineering is related to the science of water in motion, the interactions between the flowing water the surrounding environment. Many man-made systems deal with the complexities of nature. Those applications include river engineering, sediment transport, groundwater movement, rainfall runoff, lake reservoir dynamics, waves, surface flows, the alteration of natural flows by man including pollution. The quality quantity of water in natural man made reservoirs are significantly affected by such human activity as domestic, agricultural industrial pollution, l reclamation, river regulation or damming for power generation or even flood protection. This can result in habitat degradation, changes in components functions of ecosystem. Bachelors of water engineering underst the complex interactions between man-made water environment. These specialists apply state of the art environmental technologies to solve the problems related to degradation of aquatic ecosystem, deterioration of water quality, reliability of water supply, flood drought risk management at different temporal spatial scales. Hydraulic engineering is clearly the field for those, who are interested in making the water resources available for human uses love nature. General Admission Requirements Secondary school graduation certificate or diploma with good results, especially in mathematics, physics, chemistry English. Applications must be accompanied by legalized notarized English translations of all transcripts. Unofficial copies are not accepted. English language proficiency is necessary. No entrance inations for foreigners. Career Prospects Graduates are offered careers in: - water engineering design institutions, - civil engineering construction companies,
3 - companies dealing with environmental monitoring pollution mitigation issues, - consulting firms related with areas of water conservation engineering, - municipalities, ministries their technical bodies, - education research in water engineering, or - as freelance project managers, project experts, etc. Access to Further Studies The programme offers graduates opportunity to further studies in the second (Master studies) cycle.
