2 Energy security is a matter of growing concern, especially in China. The Report of the 18th National Congress of the CPC indicated China s commitment to revolutionize energy production and consumption, to enhance energy conservation and to support the development of cleaner industries. President Xi Jinping said at Boao Forum this year that when it comes to energy China embraces the idea of collaborative common security. Thanks to technological innovation, in recent years, great progresses has been made both in renewable energy and in unconventional oil and gas. The amazing development of shale gas in the US has shown us the significant impact of technological innovation. It has become apparent that emerging energy technologies, including conventional, unconventional fossil, and renewable ones, provide indefinite possibilities of a more economical, more sustainable and more peaceful world. Co-organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the United States Energy Security Council (USESC) and the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security (IAGS) the 2013 International Forum on Energy Security will bring together top experts and from governments, academia, think tanks and leading corporations to discuss avenues for international collaboration on pressing energy matters. The by-invitation-only forum will focus on energy security and global energy market regulation, the world s growing dependence on petroleum for transportation, the potential and development of unconventional oil & gas resources and the necessary improvement in the electricity system. We will also report effective policy recommendations to governments. Among the invited speakers are Mr. Wu Xinxiong, the Minister of National Energy Bureau and Associate Director of National Development and Reform Committee of China; and top officials from the US Department of Energy, US Department of State, ambassadors and industry leaders.
