2 Detailed Work Experience Universidad Central del Ecuador / Professor October 2014 Present 1. Professor of enhanced oil recovery, advanced reservoir engineering, fluid flow in porous media, and heavy oil. I have approximately 80 students in these four courses. Part of the content of these courses include the use of software such as Waterdrive and EORgui, Matlab Reservoir Simulation Toolbox (MRST), Petrel and Eclipse Advisor of research and development projects for the school of petroleum engineering. Currently we are managing two research projects: manufacturing low price surfactants for EOR, and creation of a software for waterflooding using Welge- Dake method 3. Coordinator of the reservoir department. In this position I review the contents of the classes (syllabus) of reservoir engineering, simulation and advanced simulation, and production engineering 4. Academic Director of the master graduate program in enhanced oil recovery. This two-year program started on February 2017 and have approximately 40 participants in two courses. I lead the team for creating the content of each module as well as recruiting instructors and students 5. Advisor for the design and acquisition of laboratory equipment for enhanced oil recovery 6. Acting Director of the Hydrocarbon Research Institute Project. This institute is in process of creation and possibly running fully on December I am looking for memoranda of understanding and agreements with few research centers in Mexico, South Korea, and the province of Saskatchewan 7. President of the First International Seminar of Enhanced Oil Recovery. This event took place in July 2015 with participation of an estimated 200 people. Speakers came from Ecuador, Venezuela, Argentina, and Canada. The organization of the 2 nd Seminar is on the way and scheduled for November January 1997 February Junior researcher in the Ecuadorian Center of Enhanced Oil Recovery Project (CERMEP). 3 Government of Alberta / Project Engineer December 2011 September 2014 Project Engineer in the Sustainable Energy Branch 1. Coordinate the certification of construction milestones for the Quest Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project. This project was selected as one of the recipients of the CAD 2-billion Alberta s CCS Funding Act. As member of the CCS projects team, I was able to set the terms of reference for hiring a consulting firm in order to verify the fulfillment of four construction milestones. I had to coordinate dialogues between the technical team from Shell with the consulting firm and follow up the delivery of the funding which included meetings with the contracts and legal departments. During my tenure, I was able to facilitate the delivery of over CAD 110 million from the provincial government to the Quest project. 2. Coordinate the certification of construction milestones for the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line (ACTL) owned by Enhanced Energy Inc. Same as the Quest project cited above, the ACTL was selected as recipient of the Alberta s CCS Funding Act and my job included coordinating the certification of construction milestones for the CO2 capture facilities in the Agrium and the North West Redwater Partnership 3. Member of the geology technical group in the Alberta s CCS Regulatory Framework Assessment (RFA). The RFA discussed and recommended changes in the Alberta s legislation in order to allow the construction of demonstration projects for CCS. The geology technical group gave recommendations on topics of site closure, site selection, and well construction 4. I wrote few papers which were presented in international conferences such as the GHGT-11 in Kyoto, Japan. I also represented the Sustainable Energy Branch in the US Department of Energy Research Experience in Carbon Sequestration (RECS) in June Several activities such as organizing training courses on CCS with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), energy economics, branch annual meetings, etc. Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) / International Consultant February 2013 September 2014 Part-time international consultant 1. I was in charge of monitoring 80 kilometers of right of way, three pump stations, and one pressure reduction station. I was able to visit operations in an environmentally sensitive area and suggest alternatives for reaching higher recovery factors while preserving nature. I used in this thesis the software from the US Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) Occidental E&P Company Ecuador / Intern July 1998 December This six-month internship allowed me to develop and finish my undergrad thesis which was focused on forecasting the needs for water injection facilities. I created a nodal model for the complete operational facilities which was operated by Oxy using the software Pipephase in order to calculate pressures loses in the system.
