9 Factors that may limit choosing a career in nuclear Inappropriate and inaccurate treatment of nuclear topics in primary and secondary curricula; Absence of regularly taught undergraduate courses in nuclear science and technologies at university level; Lack of established programmes that help facilitate the transition of early-career scientists into forefront research activities; and Lack of educational opportunities such as Masters-to- Ph.D. bridging programmes and progress in the nuclear sciences and technology careers.

41 Curriculum articulation to include appropriate information about nuclear Discussion on inclusion of nuclear to school curriculum in Sri Lanka
42 RAS : Educating Secondary Students and Science Teachers on Nuclear Science and Technology Suggested Implementation strategy: Develop and produce information, education and communication materials and hands-on/practical exercises Formulate feedback mechanisms such as surveys National Events- Seminars, Workshops, Focus Group Discussion Regional Meetings Regional and national workshops, seminars, training Experts mission to countries Regional training course, seminars, workshops for secondary school science teachers Teachers Exchange Program Regional and national student activities such as Nuclear Youth Summit, competitions, among others
43 Conclusions One of the strengths of the IAEA TCP is for newcomer countries to learn from the years of operational experience from expert countries and therefore save time, effort, and expense. A critical mass of trained teachers has been created in the pilot countries for propagation the program in the pilot countries under this initiative. The implementation of pilot program showed successful cooperation and knowledge sharing between Member States in the region, as well as within the participating institutions in the pilot countries. Engagement / endorsement of stakeholders like education authority with the mandate for secondary education in the implementation of compendium is important. The activities enlisted in the Compendium are comprehensive, simple and effective in generating enthusiasm both in students and teachers The Compendium is not a stand-alone product to be simply disseminated to teachers and students. It is part of a process that requires guidance with benchmarks, timelines and goals to enhance learning and outreach.
