6 SURFACE MOUNTED DIODE VS CHIP ON BOARD (COB) SMD or surface mounted design chips are chips that are mounted individually on separate chip boards. They have the necessary gap in between chips for ideal lights spread, angle and heat dissipation. COB or chip on board are low cost led chips, they are easy to install, compressed LEDs almost no gaps, produces glares that can cause temporary blindness, problems on managing heat, very directional, not good light spread. However these fittings can be very cheap. This LED high bay is IP65 rated 6- for dust ingress 5- for water ingress This is a COB LED light note the led chips part in yellow in the middle are note evenly distributed. This design also produces a halo effect in the projected light on the floor or wall, apart from the light it gives off. COB LED lights generally have shorter life, produces high level of glare that can cause temporary blindness. It can be cheap due lower material and labour cost. Note the numerous amount of small little chips mounted on the board. KEEP IT COOL We use a dual heat management system, 1) Heat sink and 2) Heat pipe technology. Both these are present in the our LED fitting. The heat pipe, made of copper is driving the heat out of the fitting and is distributed to air and heat sink. So it does not matter if the fitting gets soiled or dirty. It is a very suitable fitting even in a very challenging locations like a recycling facility.
