2 2010 Urban Water Management Plan UWMPs are a requirement of the State for retail and wholesale water suppliers The purpose of these plans are to: support long-term resource planning ensure adequate water supplies are available to meet existing and future water demands

3 2010 Urban Water Management Plan RPU s Plan is divided into six sections: Section 1 Plan Preparation Section 2 System Description Section 3 Water Demands Section 4 Water Supplies Section 5 Water Supply Reliability and Water Shortage Contingency Planning Section 6 Water Demand Management

4 Plan Preparation The Plan was prepared in accordance with the Urban Water Management Planning Act The draft 2010 UWMP was available to the surrounding: Water Management Agencies Water Retailers Public Agencies General Public

6 The Water Conservation Bill of 2009 The State Legislature passed the Water Conservation Bill of 2009 (i.e. SBX7-7) 10-percent reduction in urban per capita water use by percent reduction in urban per capita water use by 2020 RPU Baseline = 262 gallons per capita per day RPU s urban water use targets are: 238 gpcd for gpcd for 2020 In 2010, RPU s water use was 206 gpcd

7 Compliance with the Water Conservation Bill of 2009 RPU intends to meet its urban water use targets through: implementation of additional water conservation programs increased use of recycled water

9 Water Supplies RPU has three available source waters to meet its demand: Groundwater (will be about 95-percent of Total Supply) Recycled Water (Direct Use with Recycled Water will reach about 5-percent of Total Supply) Imported Water (available if needed)

11 Additional Water Supplies Recycled Water Will be from the Riverside Regional Water Quality Control Plant (RWQCP) Planned recycled water reuse is projected to reach 3,650 acre-ft/yr by ,800 acre-ft/yr by 2020

12 Additional Water Supplies Imported Water Will be from WMWD RPU has connected capacity up to 65 cfs (29,000 gpm)

16 Conclusions Local Supplies will be adequate to meet the projected demands provided that: Proposed water supply and recycled water projects are implemented Proposed water conservation programs are implemented and effective

17 Schedule Presentation to the Water Committee June 27, 2011 Conduct a Public Hearing for the 2010 UWMP at the Board Meeting July 1, 2011 Present the Draft Final 2010 UWMP to Council July 12, 2011 Submit the Final 2010 UWMP to the State and Others July 15, 2011

18 Recommendation That the Board of Public Utilities: 1. Conduct a public hearing for review of the 2010 Urban Water Management Plan; and 2. Approve and recommend that the City Council adopt the 2010 Urban Water Management Plan.
