2 What is Sustainability The word sustainability is used in many ways and is sometimes misunderstood. The contemporary origins of the word begin with the 1987 United Nations Brundtland Report, which said that Sustainable development meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs."

3 What is Sustainability It is the practice of responsible use of limited space, scarce natural resources, and respecting the fragility of eco-systems while minimizing the environmental consequences of human activities.

11 Life Cycle Assessment Life cycle refers to the fundamental understanding that a fair, holistic assessment requires the analysis of all process elements, including: Raw material extraction Processing Manufacturing Distribution Use End-of-life outcome, including all intervening transportation steps.

15 Marmoleum s life cycle can be organized into three categories covering all process elements: 1. Field to Gate Covers the process of acquiring raw material and pre-processing. Many manufacturers often overlook this step due to lack of commitment to find data or avoidance of significant negative impacts (what you can t see won t hurt you). 2. Gate to Gate Covers impacts within a manufacturers facility. This step is easy for the manufacturer to control and often made public. 3. Gate to Field Covers distribution, installation, use and maintenance and end of life outcome. Manufacturers often represent this step as life cycle costing (life cycle costing only measures financial, non-environmental impacts).

16 Goal Objective Primary: In support of Forbo Flooring Systems global sustainability project to reduce overall Environmental Footprint (CO2 and waste) by 25%, to outline potential best practices for Sales & Marketing organizations. This includes all impacts energy usage, fuel usage, travel, sampling, waste, ALL activities of Sales & Marketing organizations.
