Grading the Paraphrasing Test + 1. Content is the most important 2. Grammar is marked down if it effects the understanding 3. Paragraphing helps the smooth reading but its not mandatory 4. Teacher s feeling for naturalness 1. All the three points are paraphrased with a start and ending 2. The paraphrasing keeps the original meaning 3. Higher grade is for biggest difference from the original text

Original Eiken Level 1 (2015) Model Answer Topic: Will fossil Fuels such as oil and gas still be the world s main source of energy in the coming decades? Availability, Technology, Public Opinion Though oil and coal fueled international economic growth throughout the twentieth century, declines in conventional fuel reserves, technological advances, and shifts in public opinion mean that soon fossil fuels will no longer be the world's primary energy source. Paraphrased Points 5 points for the opening First, fossil fuels such as oil and gas are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. Decreasing oil supplies are forcing energy companies to drill in remote areas such as Alaska, for example. Though there may be enough oil and gas to last another century or two, extraction is so difficult and costly that alternative fuels are becoming a better option. As fossil fuel supplies decrease, technological improvements are making alternative energy more appealing. Sources such as solar and wind power are getting cheaper every year. Also, improved batteries are making electric cars feasible as a replacement for gasoline-powered ones. Finally, public opposition to fossil fuels is rising rapidly. Citizens have realized that pollution from fossil fuels is threatening humankind's future. Replacing fossil fuels is surely the best way to combat rising CO2 levels. Today, limited fossil fuel supplies, technological advances in alternative energies, and public opposition are bringing about radical changes in the energy sector. It is therefore highly unlikely that the next generation of humans will depend on dangerous, unsustainable forms of energy. 211 Words 5 points for availability 5 points for technology 5 points public opinion 5 points final part

Though oil and coal fueled international economic growth throughout the twentieth century, declines in conventional fuel reserves, technological advances, and shifts in public opinion mean that soon fossil fuels will no longer be the world's primary energy source.

First, fossil fuels such as oil and gas are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.
