PREAMBLE Start Date : 1 sr March 2010 Duration: 4 years 2
NEXT GEN BIOREFINERY EUROpean Multilevel Integrated BIOREFinery Design for Sustainable Biomass Processing EuroBioRef will bridge the gap between agriculture and chemical industry by integrating the whole biomass chain in a Multi-feedstock (non-edible), Multi-process (chemical, biochemical, thermochemical), Multi-products (aviation fuels and chemicals) commercial viable and adaptable approach for a sustainable bioeconomy in Europe. 3
OBJECTIVES & CONCEPT Objective: Developing a bio-refinery concept, which is integrated, flexible and modular to enable valorisation of each biomass fraction in a sustainable economy scheme. Concept: Multitasking! 1- Multibiomass Using a large variety of sustainable biomass adapted to the various European regions: Lignocellulosic, oleaginous,, plants 2- Multiprocess Using various chemical, biochemical and thermochemical processes: catalytic, enzymatic, gazeification 3- Multiproducts Producing aviation fuels Producing chemical products, including fine chemicals, monomers, polymers, solvents Ultimate demo: To make flying a plane with EuroBioRef aviation fuel 4
OBJECTIVES Produce a large diversity of sustainable biomass Produce high energy aviation fuels Produce multiple products Improve cost-efficiency by 30 % Produce zero waste and rationalize the use of raw materials Reduce by 30 % the needed energy Reduce time-to-market by 30 % 5
CONCEPT The EuroBioRef concept for demonstration of an integrated, sustainable, diversified and economically feasible biorefinery 6
