17 TOMORROW IS TODAY Laboratory, 1930 The future of Litostroj Power is based on its people; their knowledge, reliability, and innovative approach represent a guarantee for a competitive market position and longterm development of the Group. The process of research and development of hydraulic machines has been designed as a variable and fl exible system able to respond to customer requirements quickly, comprehensively and effectively. The process of research and development of new or refurbished hydraulic machines consists generally of the following activities: Design and optimization of hydraulic machines to ensure adequate hydraulic parameters; Mathematical optimization of runner/ impeller hydraulic design; Detailed computational fl uid dynamics (CFD) analysis, mainly consisting of: Prediction of hydraulic losses in individual components and evaluation of the overall hydraulic effi ciency; Evaluation of cavitation characteristics by two-phase fl ow modelling; Estimation of hydraulic loads acting on individual components; Simulation and evaluation of dynamic behaviour of generating units; Water hammer analysis and transient analysis of hydraulic systems; Finite element method (FEM) analysis of main components of hydraulic machines (stress, modal, thermal, fatigue analysis); Model design; Model fabrication; Model test and test report. 17

LITOSTROJ POWER Parent Company LITOSTROJ POWER is the parent company of the Energy Pillar within the Cimos Group. The company is involved in the design and manufacture of power generation and industrial equipment, as well as hydroelectric power plant engineering. In particular, the product range consists of water turbines, hydromechanical equipment and pumps for new or refurbished hydroelectric power plants or pump stations, as well as industrial equipment. Litostroj Power is a technology-passionate, knowledge-oriented company with a strong research and development department. It is organized in cross-functional project teams allowing a high level of flexibility in meeting the customer needs and expectations. The head office and manufacturing plant of Litostroj Power are located in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Among the competitive advantages of the company count modern production facilities in the field of heavy-duty machining and welding. The manufacturing process is computer-aided from design to NC machining, with special emphasis put on the QC procedures. ČKD BLANSKO ENGINEERING ČKD Blansko Engineering is one of the leading Czech suppliers of equipment for hydroelectric power plants. The first turbines at the Blansko factory were produced in the second half of the 19th century. Today, ČKD Blansko Engineering is a modern engineering company whose main area of activities consists of complete supplies of mechanical equipment and technology of hydroelectric power plants and pump stations. It is focused not only on new equipment supplies, but also on rehabilitations, upgrading, and overhauls of the existing machines. The company also provides a wide range of services for hydroelectric power plants. HYDRAULIC RESEARCH CENTER BLANSKO The new hydraulic laboratory, built in 2008, extends research and innovation capacities of the Litostroj Power Group substantially. The Hydraulic Research Center supports development of hydraulic machines, carries out tests on the models of hydraulic turbines, pump-turbines and pumps in accordance with the IEC 60193, as well as provides flow meter calibration. The laboratory serves for the research and development of hydraulic machines, which is made not only for the companies within the Litostroj Power Group, but also for external clients. It also serves for the realization of projects in collaboration with technical universities, as well as projects supported by the European Union. LITOSTROJ HYDRO Inc. Litostroj Hydro is a subsidiary of Litostroj Power, which is a hundred percent owned by the parent company. It covers the North, Central and South American markets. Their knowledge of the American markets makes it possible for the Litostroj Power Group to understand the customer needs better and fulfil their expectations more efficiently. The company also provides maintenance and after-sales service of the Litostroj Power Group equipment installed in the local hydroelectric power plants. Such maintenance and after-sales service are made in collaboration with the North American mechanical and electrical companies and are supervised by the Litostroj Power specialists. LITOSTROJ BH Litostroj BH in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a subsidiary of Litostroj Power, which is a hundred percent owned by the parent company. It covers the market of the Balkans. 21
