13 Turbines in drinking water systems Application of turbines to the conditions in Water Supply Systems The bearings of the guide vanes are maintenance free, without any need for lubrication; the bearings of the runner are located outside the turbine casing so the water cannot be polluted by lubricants. Special design for reduction of water hammer effect, even in long pipelines. The regulation of the control system is based on the actual flow in the pipeline or on the water level in the upper tank or behind the turbine. A special design ensures smooth operation and high efficiency with varying heads and flow at the same time (e.g. day and night intervals). Reference plants operating in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania, Portugal and Armenia.
