2 PRESENTATION OVERVIEW 1. Our Demographic Challenges 2. Labour Market Info 3. Apprenticeship Program Update
3 WE RE GETTING OLD! As a result of low fertility (1.56 children per woman) and negative net migration, the province is experiencing limited population growth In fact, in the last five years we have lost almost 6,000 young people between the age of (the fresh out of school crowd). This number doesn t include young people studying abroad elsewhere or those residing here and working elsewhere. As a result this is causing the province to age quicker than other regions of the country. NB s median age has gone from 25 in 1974 to 44.3 in New Brunswick's Median Age in 2014 is the second highest in the country (only NFLD is higher). 3
