13 FUNDING AVAILABILITY FIT UK receives funding at the start of every academic year to help learners and employers cover the cost of the training and education that they or their employees need. We receive funding through three main streams, with eligibility for each subject to change each year Learner Responsive Funding Learner responsive funding is demand led model of funding that enables us to cover all or some of the costs associated with your chosen programme of study. The funding falls into two categories; Learner Responsive and Learner Responsive This funding covers the full cost of training for any learner who is above compulsory school leaving age but will not have turned 19 before the 31st August of the year in which they commence their training. 19+ Learner Responsive This funding covers the full cost of any level 2 training programme for any learner who is unemployed or in receipt of specific state benefits. This funding also covers the cost of any level 3 training programme for any learner who is unemployed or in receipt of specific state benefits but is aged between at the date they commence their training. Traineeships A Traineeship is an education training programme with industry specific work experience that is focused on giving young people, aged 16-23yrs, the skills and experience that employers are looking for within the active leisure sector. FIT UK works with a network of employers nationally to source work experience opportunities, which when combined with a fully funded week training programme, provides the ideal preparation for progressing into a paid apprenticeship or full or part time employment. At the end of their Traineeship, each young person will be guaranteed a job interview if a role becomes available or exit interview and a reference from the company providing the work experience placement. 24+ Advanced Learner Loans You can apply for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to help with the costs of your chosen programme of study if you re aged 24 or older. The programme of study could include any of our level 3 or level 4 industry awards or can even be used to cover the cost of one of the Advanced Apprenticeship framework of qualifications. Loans have to be paid back, but repayments don t start until April 2016 and you won t have to pay anything back until you earn more than 21,000 a year. The loan doesn t depend on your income and there are no credit checks. Your monthly repayment amount will be 9% of any income you earn over 21,000 and your repayments will stop if your income drops below 21,000 a year. This equates to only 7 a month if you earned 22,000 a year or 30 a month if you earned 25,000 a year. You will pay interest from the time your first payment is made until you pay your loan back in full, and the rate you pay will be determined by your income > While you re studying - rate of inflation plus 3% > 21,000 or less - rate of inflation > 21,000 to 41,000 - rate of inflation plus up to 3% > 41,000 and over - rate of inflation plus 3% If you re an employee, your employer will work out your repayments and take them out of your salary with your tax. If you re self-employed, you make repayments as part of your Self- Assessment tax return. You can also pay some or all of your loan at any time without an extra charge. 34 WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP? An apprenticeship is framework of high quality work based training and education designed to help individuals develop the skills they need to develop and progress their careers, and employers obtain the training required to ensure that their staff have the ability to carry out their jobs to the highest possible standard. All apprenticeships must include the following elements: A competencies qualification Which must be achieved by the apprentice to qualify for an apprenticeship certificate, and which is the qualification required to demonstrate competence in performing the skill, trade or occupation to which the framework relates. A technical knowledge qualification or industry award Which is the qualification required to demonstrate achievement of the technical skills, knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts and knowledge and understanding of the industry and its market relevant to the skill, trade or occupation to which the framework relates. A functional skills qualification Which is the qualification required to demonstrate competency in literacy and numeracy. FIT UK Training & Education currently offer apprenticeships at two levels: Intermediate Apprenticeships Intermediate apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as an NVQ Level 2, a Level 2 Industry Award, and a Level 1 functional skills qualification in maths and english. These provide the skills you need for your chosen career and allow entry to an Advanced Level Apprenticeship. Advanced Level Apprenticeships Advanced level apprentices work towards workbased learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 3, a Level 3 Industry Award, and a Level 2 functional skills qualification in maths and english. To start this programme, you should ideally have five GCSEs (grade C or above) or have completed an Intermediate Level Apprenticeship. 32 WORK BASED APPRENTICESHIPS
