6 ArbAC Pre-requisites: - 2 years previous trading records/accounts (minimum) - nominate named manager/ responsible person - Public Liability Insurance (recommended min. 5 million) EngArbs3
7 ArbAC Criteria: - Office systems and customer care - H&S etc. compliance and premises check - Operational competence assessment (site inspection) - Work quality assessments (site inspections) EngArbs3

13 You need to decide how you will determine a contractor s competence. what experience they have in the type of work you want done; what their health and safety policies and practices are; about their recent health and safety performance (number of accidents etc); what qualifications and skills they have; their selection procedure for sub-contractors; for their safety method statement; what health and safety training and supervision they provide; their arrangements for consulting their workforce; if they have any independent assessment of their competence; = Arb Approved Contractor..! if they are members of a relevant trade or professional body; or whether their employees hold a passport in health and safety training.

18 Monitoring / Supervision of contractors: - Frequency / levels: dependent upon risk level and numbers of persons who may be affected. - Elements: site set up, risk assessment AND controls, trained and competent staff, PPE, aerial rescue provision, work methods, First Aid, machinery etc. etc. - How?: Use of AFAG leaflets, AA generic forms, in-house forms (H&S Dept.) 19 Monitoring / Supervision of contractors: - REMEMBER you need to be competent yourself to undertake these site audits. You will be better placed after today s training but consider also use of external experts periodically to ensure your systems are robust and defensible. EngArbs5
