1 Operational Activity Decomposition (OV-5, Node Tree) The Biological Sensor Fusion (BSF) node tree diagram organizes the Operational Activities in a hierarchical structure from highest to lowest in a single integrated diagram to provide a quick, intuitive understanding of the various tasks conducted by the Operational Nodes of the BSF system. The Operational Activities shown in the activity decomposition node tree diagram are the higher level activities that will be performed by the system. The BSF node tree diagram presents the appropriate alignment and decomposition of the Operational Activities. The activities shown in blue are being used for the development of the CPN executable model and correlate in direct concordance with that executable model. Biological Sensor Fusion (BSF), OV-5 Node Tree Diagram
2 Operational Activity Model (OV-5, IDEF0) The Biological Sensor Fusion (BSF) Operational Activity Model (OV-5) shows activities, relationships among activities, inputs and outputs associated with the system. Graphically illustrating the operations that are normally conducted in the course of achieving a mission or a business capability, it describes capabilities, operational activities (or tasks), input and output (I/O) flows between activities, and I/O flows to/from activities that are outside the scope of the architecture. Rectangle graphics indicate operational activities that are performed in that swim lane. The lines between the operational activities describe the information that needs to flow between the operational activities in order for them to perform their functions. The BSF (OV-5) diagrams capture the higher level activities that are performed by the Operational Nodes within the BSF system. To enhance understanding, an operational activity as depicted in the OV-5 model is defined as an action commonly performed by an organization as part of its business processes. It does not reflect functionality of systems, only actions conducted by humans. The BSF activity model collectively aligns all the operational activities conducted by the BSF system. The OV-5 details human or organizational activities that are conducted in support of the BSF missions and operations. It is a key product for describing capabilities and relating those capabilities to missions. Developing and maintaining an OV-5 provides several benefits. They include, but are not limited to: 1. Allowing leadership to understand the effects of change 2. Assisting in the prediction of risk or identification of potential issues 3. Aligning potential technological candidate solutions 4. Enhancing the training of new personnel by providing an overarching view of the enterprise and supporting technology 5. Providing the foundational data that can be used to create other essential transformational, portfolio or architecture products The context diagram Provide Biological Detection Sensor Network activity is decomposed into four further activities Detect Bio-Terrorist Attack, Fuse Bio Threat Sensor Data, Deploy Ad-hoc Sensors, and Detect Further Infected Area. The format of
3 the OV-5 diagram is presented in both a Node Tree activity hierarchy or decomposition, as well as an IDEF0 activity diagram. Beneath each high level activity lie sub-activities that support it. These subactivities throughout the diagram are notated by a hierarchal number that corresponds to the higher level activity for traceability. Biological Sensor Fusion (BSF), OV-5 A-0 diagram Purpose: The purpose of BSF is to protect a high density urban environment against biological terrorism and minimize the effects if an attack occurs. Viewpoint: The architecture viewpoint will be from the vantage point of a Department of Homeland Security Metropolitan Operations Center Commander (DHS/MOCC).
