2 USE OF -DHIS What are analysis reports? Analysis reports present analysis of data using indicators and subjecting it to comparisons across facilities and over time. In contrast, routine reports typically involve aggregation, and are not very useful for analytical comparisons. Analysis reports comprises of the use of graphs, charts, and maps in order to make easy comparisons in pictorial format. Analysis can also take place through triangulation by comparing reports as generated from the routine system with figures from survey data (like SRS and NFHS). Triangulation thus provides a benchmark to compare the quality of routine data, which can also serve as a mechanism to strengthen the routine data quality. 6.2 Generating analysis reports You can view the data in the form of charts using Graphical Analysis which is a feature offered in the Dashboard module. Click on the services tab to view the dashboard module option. M-6. 2

3 USE OF -DHIS 2 Two options for graphical analysis will be displayed as can be seen in the screenshot below. M-6. 3

4 USE OF -DHIS 2 When you select the Regular option you will get the screen where you can select different options to generate charts. 1. You can view chart for either data elements or indicators. For this you will have to select the desired option. M-6. 4

5 USE OF -DHIS 2 2. You can view chart by period or organization unit wise. Period wise means x-axis of the generated displays periods. Incase of organization unit wise charts the x-axis displays organization units. 3. Further if a user is viewing the data elements / indicators organization unit wise, they have 2 options: a) Selected Organization unit will display data only for that particular organisation unit. b) Child Organisation units will display data for all the organization units falling under that organisation unit. 9 USE OF -DHIS Managing chart presentation After the chart, either by period or organization, is generated it is possible to sort the display on X-axis in ascending / descending / alphabetical order. This option can be used from the drop down menu of the select sort type option provided on the top right side of the displayed chart screen. It is also possible to generate different forms of charts using the arrows located on the top right corner of the chart screen. M-6. 9

10 USE OF -DHIS Printing analysis reports In order to print the created analysis charts click on the Export to excel option displayed on the top right section of the displayed screen as shown in the screenshot below. M-6. 10

12 USE OF -DHIS 2 The generated excel report can be saved by giving a file name and printed as and when required. 6.4 Different kinds of analysis reports Various kinds of analysis reports can be developed using the two basic analysis categories available in the dashboard module. The two basic analysis modules are: 1. Analysis based on any user defined data element groups. 2. Analysis based on different groups of indicators. M-6. 12

13 USE OF -DHIS Drill down feature The dashboard allows you the drill down feature which can help in identifying the precise source of a figure, either in terms of specific data elements or periods. For example, if you find an abnormal figure (say for sterilization) at the state level, and you want to identify from which district, or even further which PHC or SC is responsible for the abnormality. Using this drill down feature, you can identify the precise source of the problem. M-6. 13
