2 Introduction Franchises come in all types and sizes, but no matter what franchise business you re in, one thing remains clear, driving brand quality and service consistency across your business model are keys to your success and greater profits. You invest a lot of time and money to market and sell the quality and consistency of your brand, but do all of your franchises live up to your branding expectations? 3 Franchisor/Franchisee Training While most franchisors provide training to new franchisees, how many ensure that their franchisees receive ongoing training? How do you train franchisees when your brand evolves? Product lines change, new technology is introduced; promotions change if you re not providing ongoing training how are you getting your point across? If you re using as your communication vehicle can you ensure That your was received, read, understood and shared? This scenario can easily lead to brand dilution. When staff training is left up to the franchisee and their management team there is the potential for brand dilution! Also, many franchisors do not provide training for franchisee employees. Staff training is decentralized and left up to the franchisee and their management staff. New managers and new employees require proper training when they re hired, and even beyond their hiring. This decentralized training model is again another example of where the potential for brand dilution can begin. Once you, the franchisor, lose control over your consistency in messaging, operational expectations, company values, etc., your brand quality and service consistency may begin to erode, and over time, so can your profits. 4 Business Concerns that Drive Training Initiatives Although no two franchise systems are identical, many experience similar business concerns that easily lend themselves to the development of online training initiatives. The greatest concerns have already been brought to light; driving brand quality and service consistency across your business model; however there are other concerns that support the need for online training, and all of these concerns can impact your bottom line, such as 1. Annual employee turnover rates and new employee growth rates require ongoing training. 2. New product/service line introductions require timely employee training. 3. New operating processes, procedures, equipment or technology introduced that changes the way employees work requires training. 4. Compliance with occupational health and safety training and sexual harassment requirements. 5. Providing career development opportunities. (promote from within) 6. Sharing of best practices to enhance performance. 7. International expansion requires worldwide levels of consistency. 8. Time, effort and costs associated with live or in-person training. 9. Measurement and accountability of training and results.
