1 Dear New Member: I am pleased to welcome you as a new member and owner of Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC). Being a member of one of the most progressive Cooperatives in the country, you now have the opportunity to participate in its governance and share in its success. Your Cooperative has a proud history of providing reliable electric service to rural areas throughout Virginia that were once considered too costly to be profitable. Today, even as many of those communities have grown to be regarded as suburban, we remain committed to providing reliable electricity. For over 75 years, REC has built its reputation on four core values: WELCOME! 2 integrity: being honest, responsible and ethical in all that we do, making sure our actions always match our words About Us REC is a not-for-profit, member-owned utility providing electricity to over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. The Cooperative is guided by a member-elected Board of Directors. Being an REC member means you are an owner of the company and share in our success. We work hard every day to keep your rates as low as possible and to ensure your needs are always met. Because we are not-for-profit, when there is money left over after paying all expenses involved in providing safe and reliable electric service, your share of that money is assigned to you in the form of Capital Credits. Our success is your success. MISSION STATEMENT To enhance the lives of the members and communities we serve by providing safe, reliable and affordable electric service as good stewards of the environment. 3 service: providing reliable electricity and quality products Your Account Each month your electric bill is sent a few days after the meter is read. There are approximately 30 days in each billing cycle, but this may vary depending upon the number of days in the month. See the back of your bill for a list of all of your payment options. To avoid late fees, always pay your electric bill by the due date. Your Electric Meter Residential electric meters are automatically read each month through a remote meter reading system. Periodically, REC will physically read your meter to ensure accuracy and to inspect the Cooperative s facilities serving your property. For safety reasons, meters must be easily accessible to REC personnel. Scheduled Maintenance REC maintains a regular schedule for tree trimming and managing the rights of way beneath overhead power lines. Right-of-way work is performed by REC personnel, as well as by contractors hired by REC. Your cooperation with this necessary and important work benefits many and is greatly appreciated. Stay Safe Remember electricity can be dangerous. Look up for power lines around your home, call 811 before any digging project, and stay away from downed power lines. Get Started with MyREC SmartHub! MyREC SmartHub: With one login, you have access to many online services from REC: view and pay your bill, set up automatic payments, sign up for paperless billing, choose important notifications, monitor energy use, and so much more! Set up your profile at MyREC SmartHub can easily be downloaded for access on your mobile device. Visit the store on your mobile device and search MyREC SmartHub. Here s how to set up an online profile for access to MyREC SmartHub: 1. You will need your REC account number on your electric bill. 2. Go to: 3. Click the link: Create your NEW online profile. 4. Follow the directions for establishing a MyREC SmartHub online profile and updating your contact information. 5. Enjoy these new features! NEW MEMBER INFORMATION 3

Individual Outage Notification (ION) When your power goes off, ION sends a notification to REC s dispatch center. SurgeAssist We will cover the cost of surge-related repair or replacement of damaged electronics, up to the $2,000 coverage amount. Water Heater Replacement Buy your next water heater from REC with up to 36 months to pay for it interest free. Installation of the new water heater and disposal of your existing water heater is included. REC Electrical Services Master electricians from REC offer professional electrical work inside your home. Services range from simple replacement of fixtures to complete re-wiring. Find all of the services available to you at Energy Efficiency To get the greatest value from your energy dollar, be sure to use your energy wisely. We offer these services and tools to help you manage your energy use. Professional energy advice and audits REC s Energy Advisers offer the choice of a personal phone consultation to answer questions you may have about your energy use or an in-home energy audit. Online energy tools REC s online energy tools are a great way to analyze your energy use and start lowering your energy bills. Use the tools in the Home Energy Suite at Smart Response AC Switch Help hold down the cost of electricity by allowing REC to manage your air conditioner during peak periods. By doing so, you help better manage energy resources, help the environment and earn a credit on your electric bill. Enrollment and installation are voluntary, easy and 100 percent free. For participating, you will receive a one-time $25 bill credit at the end of the first cooling season (typically October), and each year you will receive a $6 bill credit during the summer months (June-September). The switch must remain active to receive credits. NEW MEMBER INFORMATION 4
5 caring: showing compassion and concern for our members and the communities we serve Community Support As a cooperative, REC is committed to the communities we serve. Every year we award scholarships and grants, as well as participate in over 200 events throughout our service territory, sharing information about electric safety, energy efficiency and more. Learn about how we support our communities at The Power of Change Each month, thousands of Rappahannock Electric Cooperative members give voluntarily to The Power of Change. Gifts can be a set monthly amount, a one-time donation, or members can round up their bill to the next whole dollar. These funds are invested back into the community so we have a better place to live, work, and play. Sign up in MyREC SmartHub or call Everyday Savings With Co-op Connections Save money every day at thousands of pharmacies and local and national businesses. Co-op Connections is a FREE member benefit that gives you access to great discounts. You will receive your Co-op Connections card in a separate mailing from us. Shop and save! Caring Notice Help REC members who may need assistance in remembering their payment due date. With their permission, a designated person is notified if a bill is forgotten. To participate visit to complete the form or send REC written permission. Serious Medical Condition Certification (SMCC) Does someone in your household require constant use of electrically powered medical equipment? If so, SMCC makes us aware of that need so that we can work more closely with you regarding payments and preparing for outages. SMCC participation does not guarantee your electric service will not be interrupted. Call to learn more. NEW MEMBER INFORMATION 5
