District 5M6 ~ Leading the way into our second century of Service Join Me! Hairstyles, fashions and pop cultures will come and go. Governments and political leaders will come and go. Humanitarian needs are here to stay. And, that is the reason that Lions Clubs International is here to stay. Our history of identifying and helping those in need around the world is without equal. Our accomplishments in our first 100 years are amazing! The possibilities for the future are even greater. As we enter our second century, Lions are faced with ever expanding human needs both here and abroad. We are responding with LCI Forward, an ambitious plan to triple the number of lives we impact during the next five years. This plan will bring challenges, but great opportunities as well. As we step up our game to meet this goal, we will need to use all the tools available to us. We will need more helping hands as well. both Lion and non-lion. All of this revolves around the most satisfying activity that we can undertake as individuals or as a group. Service to others. So, join me as we begin the next 100 years. Attack the Challenges and seize the Opportunities that await us! Together, we will do great things! Lion Curt
District 5M6 July, M6 Lion Member, Welcome to the Lions year in District 5M6. I am proud to serve with you in this, our Association s 100 th year! We have a busy year ahead of us, one filled with both challenges and opportunities! We present this Plan as a guide to help us move forward as a team with a common mission and in cooperation with each other. This Plan reflects the collaborative efforts 1 st VDG Eileen, 2 nd VDG Tracy, and me. We have been meeting at least monthly since our election in January to discuss and create it. We hope you find our efforts thoughtful and beneficial to all Lions in our District. This year we will celebrate our Centennial, begin a new 5-year Plan, LCI Forward, and work to resolve many of the challenges that face our District. Our goals are ambitious, but attainable. We will work hard, and we will celebrate our accomplishments with an equal amount of energy. The keys to success this year will be our common desire to Serve, our cooperation with each other, and our attitudes. I am convinced that this will be a GREAT year, one in which every Lion in this District will feel the deep rewards of Service and joy of fellowship in providing it. Thank you for being part of this exceptional team. Work hard, but enjoy the journey! Lion Curt Lion Curt Stockford District Governor Virtually nothing is impossible in this world if you just put your mind to it and maintain a positive attitude. ~ Lou Holtz

Lions Clubs International Our Theme We Serve is our Motto. For at least the next three years it will also be our Theme. The current International Officers agreed last year to each forego a personal theme for their term. The estimated savings for this decision are said to be in the realm of 3-4 million dollars over that period. This would seem to be a wise decision. LCI Forward LCI Forward is our new global 5-year plan. It is our attempt to meet the growing humanitarian needs of our world. It includes 4 Areas of Focus and Strategic Initiatives. Enhance Service Impact & Focus The goal of LCI Forward is to triple our impact worldwide by improving the lives of at least 200 million per year by through expanded humanitarian service. This goal is a direct response to the growing humanitarian needs which we face. The number of people in need has increased sharply, fourfold since the Lions year. Reshape Public Opinion & Improve Visibility Because the need for voluntary humanitarian service is higher than ever, we need to remind society of our impact, and what communities could be like without a Lions Club, and what people united in service can do to meet rising needs and build communities of hope and resiliency. Pursue Club, District & Organizational Excellence We are today the largest voluntary service organization in the world. To continue our growth and service LCI will continue to innovate in services to Lions clubs and districts and increase the use of all available technologies. Improve Membership Value & Reach New Markets We need to offer more ways for caring people to join us in service to others. We need to provide methods which are flexible and in synch with today s busy lifestyles. We will continue to welcome people of all ages, genders, races and faiths into our movement.
District 5M Lion Curt Lion Eileen Lion Tracy The Leadership Team Our Vision is for District 5M6 to be a model of growth, innovation and dynamic service within Multiple District 5M and beyond. Our Mission is to create the tools and attitudes necessary to place District 5M6 on a path of continuous growth and vitality. Our Overall Goals for the District are to enhance communication, increase service to our communities, grow membership, improve member retention, and clarify and improve operational systems. LCI Goals Lions Clubs International asks for a standard set of Goals & Action Plans for both Membership and Leadership Development from each District for each new Lions year. Here are ours. Leadership Development 1. Schools of Instruction will be provided for all Club Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers and Membership Chairs before their terms begin; 2. Our district will enroll at least two Lions in both ELLI (Emerging Lions Leadership Institute) and ALLI (Advanced Lions Leadership Institute) during this Lions year;
3. A District Information Packet, including our Goals & Actions Plans for , will be distributed to each Cabinet member and each club by the All District Meeting in August; 4. A new three-year Strategic Plan will be created which addresses the District s long range vision as well as its approach to Service, Leadership Development, Membership Development, and Training. It will be our goal to have this plan ratified at the first Cabinet meeting in August. Membership Development 1. At least one new Lions club will be added to District 5M6 during this year; 2. We will add 149 new members to existing clubs, 21 members in a new club, and reduce our drops by 17% to 155 members for a net growth of 15 members by June 30, 2018; 3. We will increase our female membership by 1% to 31%, a net gain of 14 female members by June 30, Please note that these numbers are the result of suggested LCI goals and are based upon this district s 5 year averages for extension, retention, membership growth, and family & women s data. I truly hope that your expectations, like mine, are considerably higher than these numbers. Program Goals Additional District Goals Create a coordinated plan for communication within the district through the restructuring of the district s Public Relations group, and the appointment of a Communications Coordinator. Increase engagement of district supported programs with clubs through greater information availability and more presentations to clubs. Efficiently incorporate the new Global Service Team (GST) into the district organization Create and implement a District Website Plan which addresses purpose, content, and priorities for development Operational Goals Have the current website evaluated by three separate sources to determine its suitability to meet the district s website plan
Identify and recruit 2-4 individuals with technical expertise to make additions and modifications to the existing website Identify and recruit 4-6 individuals to maintain the district website on a monthly basis Continue review, updating and modification of District Constitution and By-Laws with the goal of presenting these at the 2018 Midwinter Convention for approval Create a District Policy and Procedure Manual with the goal of presenting these at the 2018 Midwinter Convention for approval Create a new 3 year Strategic Plan for the District with the goal of ratification at the first Cabinet Meeting in August, 2017 Create a Long Range Plan which addresses the vision for District 5M6 over both a 5 year and 10 year period. Service Goals Each club in the district will conduct at least one new Service Project. Each club will participate in a district wide Day of Service, tentatively scheduled for May 19, 2018 District Organization The attached Organizational Charts are in effect for District 5M6 for the year Changes to our existing structure have been made in the following key areas. GST (Global Service Team) is a new position mandated by LCI. This position will undoubtedly evolve as we increase Service to meet the goals of LCI Forward. Communications Coordinator is a new position designed to coordinate our efforts to enhance the District s role as a resource to our clubs and members through our various communication tools and platforms. Publicity is a new job category added this year. This job entails posting District and Club news and events to as many media outlets as reasonably possible on a monthly basis. Region Chairs are vacant this year due to retirements. The position remains part of the district s plan to increase the pool of individuals qualified for leadership roles. GMT and GLT have been expanded to meet both the needs within our district as well as LCI s published goals

5M6 Cabinet Members Cabinet Meetings Cabinet Meetings are scheduled 4 times per year to closely follow Council of Governors Meetings. Please see District Calendar. Attempts will be made to choose locations that fairly distribute the amount of travel within the District by Cabinet Members. Food will be provided at some Cabinet Meetings, but not at all. Price inflation places increasingly limited options on what is possible in this area. A typical Standard Agenda for Cabinet Meetings is included in this package. Please review it. Please note that more time will be allocated to discuss the progress toward our goals and discussion of current challenges facing the District. In order to accommodate these priorities, we will spend considerably less time on hearing verbal reports by officers, trustees, and committee and program chairs. Please respect this process through the following actions: 1. Submit your quarterly reports electronically, 7 days prior to the Cabinet Meeting. 2. Time for members to speak will be available, but will be based upon on imminent events, news, and/or challenges which their program may be facing. Regular reports will be in writing only. 3. Submit requests to be listed on the agenda to the DG at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. 4. All Reports will be available online through a file sharing account, probably Dropbox, as they are submitted. Your Program Goals Please consider the goals, activities, and events which will make you an effective leader in your particular area of responsibility. Please organize and submit these in a short list of goals and activities which you will undertake this year. This will serve as your quarterly report at our first Cabinet Meeting. Thank you for being part of the Team. Thank you for your leadership as we enter our second century. The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves. ~ Ray Kroc
