3 Introduction Collins McNicholas Recruitment & HR Services Group is pleased to publish its 2017 Salary Guide a comprehensive survey of management, professional and administrative salaries in Ireland. The Collins McNicholas Salary Guide includes over 275 job titles across 10 sectors and 8 regions:,, East,,,, North and North East. Methodology The information compiled in this guide uses the salary levels provided by our clients and candidates for the first three months of We collected current professional salaries from a sample of over 4,250 candidates, with 3-5 years experience, who were newly registered on our database between January and March We combined this data with salary figures provided by our clients for over 500 jobs that we recruited for between January and March The results of the survey give an accurate and robust list of salary ranges in Ireland. Labour Market Trends The short to medium term outlook for the Irish economy is good. The ESRI forecasts GDP growth of 3.8% in 2017 and 3.6% in 2018, with a corresponding fall in the unemployment rate to 6.4% by the end of 2017 and 5.6% by the end of Domestic factors are playing a more important role in economic growth with a resurgent construction sector expected to be a significant driver of this growth as the housing shortage is addressed. We expect high tech industries such as biopharma, medtech, IT, and professional services will experience sustained job growth over the next few years. Exports in these sectors, as well as increased domestic consumption should mitigate any impact from Brexit and allow our economy to grow and the unemployment rate to fall. Salaries have increased slightly in a few niche areas, mainly within the biopharma, medtech and IT sectors. Salaries may rise slightly in these sectors as firms compete for the highest calibre professionals. This upward pressure on salaries will be minimal and experienced in only a few specialist roles. There is some wage inflation in, largely in the sectors mentioned above, but in the regions salaries remain stable. The stability in salaries in regional locations, and their competitive cost base overall, should prove a significant draw for foreign investment. INTRODUCTION Attrition Attrition rates have been creeping up in larger urban areas as professionals have more employment opportunities and can change jobs for a position with better pay and conditions, but overall remain relatively low. This rise in attrition rates is normal under improving economic circumstances with cities such as, Cork and Galway thriving in the last couple of years. Employee turnover remains low in regional locations that have not experienced the same level of job growth as the bigger cities. We expect this will remain the case over the next few years even as regional economic prospects continue to improve. 4 Employee Engagement Professionals place more importance on the broader benefits a company can provide beyond the standard salary packages. Younger professionals, in particular millennials, are taking a more holistic view of their careers and their employers. These professionals consider corporate social responsibility, opportunity for career progression and company culture when applying for positions. Companies need to invest in training and development if they want to attract the best talent. Professionals need to be continually upskilling to stay relevant as technologies and industry standards evolve. Strong investment in training and development is an excellent way for employers to differentiate themselves from their competitors and attract the most promising talent in the market. Recruiting Talent INTRODUCTION Companies are using more and more sophisticated tools to assess job applicants. They are adding layers to their recruitment process to improve the accuracy of their job candidate assessments. Apart from the standard CV review, interview and reference check, companies are using a range of psychometric and ability tests to recognise the candidates that are most suitable for their company. These assessments allow companies to analyse the suitability of job candidates in a standardised and reliable way that removes any possible bias and sets a minimum proficiency for applicants to progress to the next recruitment stage. Psychometrics enable companies to look at how a person will fit with the culture of the company as well as their technical ability. Psychometric and ability tests ultimately provide added assurance for employers that they are selecting the right candidate for the job.
