2 Programme Overview The BSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management programme offered by the School of Business at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), aims to develop professionals with the relevant knowledge and skill sets to meet the needs of the industry. This is the first undergraduate programme focused on the study of logistics and supply chain management (SCM) that is offered by a Singapore university. Partnering the Singapore Logistics Association (SLA), the curriculum is designed with a blend of theory and relevant industry practices that will equip students with the means to support the effective management of globalised supply chains operating in increasingly challenging environments. Asia have led to greater demand for logistics services in the region. Intra-Asian trade is set to increase significantly as Asian countries evolve to become major consumer markets. Increasing economic integration among Asian countries through the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and China s Belt and Road Initiative will further spur demand for logistics services. The logistics and SCM industry is a key pillar of Singapore s economy. It has been identified as one of the essential sectors in the government s SkillsFuture initiative. The sector contributes to about 7% of the nation s GDP and employs some 189,000 people. Singapore s status as an international logistics hub with world-class infrastructure, excellent connectivity by sea and air to major markets, and pro-business environment puts us in a strong position to grow this industry further. The Singapore Logistics Association Established since 1973, SLA aims to represent Singapore logistics and is thrust to advance professionalism and excellence to promote high standards in industry practices. Its growing membership of more than 500 business entities today offers a diverse scope of logistics and ancillary support services. As a trade association, SLA seeks to fulfil its objectives in close collaboration and engagement with logistics companies and professionals, institutions and academia, industry organisations and partners, government agencies as well as international organisations and businesses. What is Logistics and Supply Chain Management? It is hard to imagine any product reaching a customer without logistics support. The drive towards excellence in managing supply chains has become vital for many businesses as supply chain networks become more complex and intricate. Logistics is that part of supply chain management that plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customers requirements. Supply chain management encompasses the planning and management of all activities involved in sourcing and procurement, conversion, and all logistics management activities. Importantly, it also includes coordination and collaboration with channel partners, which can be suppliers, intermediaries, third party service providers, and customers. Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals The partnership between SLA and SUSS dates back to 28 October 2008 when the first MOU was signed. Both parties recognise the value of co-operation in the area of training and development of the logistics and SCM profession. SUSS plans to continue to train and groom talent while SLA welcomes the BSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management degree programme as an integral part of its own roadmap to upskill logistics and SCM professionals who are trained and developed by its fully-owned subsidiary, The Logistics Academy. Practice-based Learning Our students learn how to develop effective decision-making and problem-solving skills at strategic, tactical and operational levels to manage supply chain assets and flows of products, information and funds through the supply chain. Our teaching team with years of relevant professional experience as well as our extensive industry links ensure that students receive a stimulating and rigorous practice-based learning experience. Students are able to apply what they learn to actual work scenarios through work-based assignments, case studies, industry talks, site visits, overseas experiential learning and the final-year applied project. Why Logistics and Supply Chain Management? These are exciting times for logistics and SCM. Rapid urbanisation and the rise of the affluent middle class in

5 The BSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management programme is designed to provide broad foundational knowledge and skills in business core courses, progressing to applied and specialised subject knowledge in logistics and SCM courses and electives which are aligned with the Skills Framework for Logistics. Students are required to complete a total of 130 credit units (cu) to graduate with a basic degree, inclusive of 10 cu of SUSS core courses. All courses are 5 cu unless stated otherwise. This programme has an honours option. Students who achieved a CGPA of 3.5 and above upon completion of their basic degree may be invited to enrol in the Honours programme. Students who accept the invitation will need to complete another 40 cu of courses to achieve 170 cu in total and have to satisfy all university requirements in order to graduate with honours. 6 BSc LOGISTICS WITH INTERNATIONAL TRADE MANAGEMENT BSc LOGISTICS WITH PROCUREMENT MANAGEMENT The BSc Logistics with minor degree programmes have the same major-minor structure. Students are required to complete 80 cu of Major courses and 40 cu of Minor courses. The courses in the Logistics Major are designed to provide essential knowledge and skills in both disciplines of business and logistics. Minor in International Trade Management The International Trade Management minor provides logistics students with good functional knowledge and soft skills to support the regional growth of Singapore s wholesale trade, and be proficient with technological developments that affect wholesale trade. The curriculum in the International Trade Management minor is closely aligned with the Skills Future Framework for the Wholesale Trade sector. Students will be equipped with cultural intelligence skills in relating with trading partners and conducting wholesale trade, especially in Asia, and have integrity in their work and in society. Courses in the Procurement Management minor support the Ministry of Finance s Procurement Competency Framework. Students will be equipped with the necessary skills to strike the right balance between accountability, prudent use of funds and operational efficiency, and uphold integrity in their work and in society. 8 ADMINISTRATIVE DETAILS Admissions You must be a Singapore citizen, permanent resident or a resident in Singapore. In addition, you will need to meet these minimum requirements: GCE 'A' level with two passes (prior to 2006) or two H2 passes (from 2006), or local Polytechnic Diploma or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or NUS High School Diploma. Applicants with a Technical Diploma from ITE, or other Diploma qualifications plus an acceptable SAT or ACT (with Writing) score may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis; Two years of full-time work experience, or currently employed on a full-time basis; and At least 21 years old. Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo one or more interview(s) and/or take written admission or other evaluation tests. All applications are considered individually on merit, and the offer of admission depends on the number of places available. Admission is solely at the discretion of Singapore University of Social Sciences. How to Apply Applications are to be made online via suss.edu.sg. You must submit all the required documents together with your admission application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Tuition Fees and Government Subsidy The amount of course fee you pay in each semester depends on the number of courses you take in that semester. Course fees cover all study materials, classes, supervision, assignments and examinations. They do not include costs for textbooks and other additional items specified by the university from time to time. The tuition fee subsidy from the Singapore Government comes in the form of a tuition grant which is administered by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and is offered to eligible students studying for an undergraduate degree with the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above who are pursuing MOE-subsidised undergraduate programmes with SUSS and who are eligible for the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy will enjoy a higher subsidy. All Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their $500 SkillsFuture Credit from the government to pay for a wide range of approved skills-related courses.
