INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE IN LOGISTICS & TRANSPORT - CILT Objectives At the end of the course, participants will be able to: Practically manage logistics, warehousing, ports, fleet and transport operations at a supervisory level Join the world s most established professional body for Logistics and Transport professionals Use the skills and knowledge acquired to succeed in one of the most important, enjoyable and financially rewarding sections of the economy Qualify for the grade of Member (MILT) and pursue the International Diploma Programme in Logistics and Transport. Participate in all activities of the CILT, both local and international Enjoy the benefits of a new type of career continuity that CILT offers its members Course Content The programme consists of the following courses of which candidates must successfully complete three through examinations. Two (2) core units, and then have a choice of one (1) unit from a selection of ten optional subjects. The others are Warehousing and Stores managers, airline workers, shipping company workers and other professionals who want to pursue a career in logistics and transport operations and management. Entry Requirements To qualify for this programme, Participants ought to have been educated up to Uganda Certificate of Education. Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education, Diploma, Bachelors Degree in other field other that Transport, Procurement and Logistics. In addition, participants must have worked in a logistics and transport environment for a minimum of three years. Course Fee The course fee is GBP (International student fees) and GBP.135 (Annual Local Branch membership) for both Ugandans and Non-Ugandans. Local fees (tution) is UGX 350,000 per paper, UGX 150,000 examination fees per paper and UGX 40,000 admission fees. Duration The duration of the course is six months and will commence on Monday, September 4, Course delivery structure: The mode of course delivery will be on a part-time basis. Lectures would be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday only from 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Uganda Management Institute in conjunction with Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport is pleased to invite prospective applicants to enroll for: International Diploma in Logistics and Transport Aim This qualification builds on knowledge gained from the CILT International Certificate course in Logistics and Transport and as a consequence is at a higher level. The Diploma is basically aimed at those already working in the industry/sector at a middle management level and who wish to develop a strategic view of logistics and transport operations and be capable of reviewing operational activities. Qualification Students who are successful in their Diploma studies meet the knowledge standards for Membership (MILT) of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport subject to a minimum of 3 years experience in the logistics and transport sector. The qualification consists of six units all of which have to be studied and completed by students who will sit an examination in each module Successful completion of the CILT International Diploma together with a minimum of two years appropriate experience meets the eligibility criteria for membership upgrade from Student Member to Member (MILT) of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. Candidates study a total of 4 units: 1 mandatory unit, 1 or 2 electives (from a choice of 3) and 1 or 2 optional units (from a choice of 13).

4 Assessment is by examination It is also possible for a single unit to be taken as a stand-alone course WHO'S THE COURSE SUITABLE FOR? The course is designed to support professionals involved in planning logistics operations and who are already in supervisory or operational management roles. It s also ideal for graduates with non-business degrees moving into the logistics field. It operates at Dip HE/HND level (Level 5 equivalent to 2 years of a degree). WHAT'S THE TIME COMMITMENT? As a guide, students should allow around months to complete the programme although students can complete the qualification within a year depending on how the course is taught. The guided learning hours are set at 360 hours which includes classroom and self-study hours. This is allocated as 90 hours for each of the 4 units. This qualification is studied part time due to the nature of the course. 6 CILT ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT INTRODUCTION This advanced course is primarily aimed at developing strategic decision making skills in logistics and transportation. Modern companies in their efforts to cope with an ever changing and challenging environment use two key processes to build their future. The first is strategic planning which enables top management to determine what business direction it wants to achieve. The second is the logistics and transportation planning which enables the company to proceed in a systematic way to identify and turn specific opportunities into profitable business. This course presents the conceptual idea of integration of logistics and transportation planning into the strategic planning process. In the present marketing environment characterized by unparalleled technological developments and intensifying competition, there are no simple correct solutions to logistics and transportation problems. This course is therefore aimed at presenting a set of normative procedures, which may be utilized to generate a varied range of innovative strategic options and a basis to choose a rational programme for action. For the purpose of this course, understanding the process of identification is more important than any particular solution. The focus of this course is on strategic logistics and transportation management. Issues in this area will be explored in depth and at a relatively advanced level. The student is expected to fully understand the conceptual and theoretical basis of strategy and demonstrate competence in actually utilizing that understanding in the applied context. The course contains 4 modules. In the 1st module, students will receive knowledge and information on logistics and transportation strategic management and leadership. Since the logistics and transportation industry is so unique, in terms of organization culture and professionalism, students should know how to handle them skillfully. After studying the internal environment, students are expected to have a full understanding on the logistics and transportation external environment. In module 2, the course will discuss the external factors, such as government and politics, economics and finance, society and sustainability, risk and contingency planning; with the focus on logistics and transportation. Formulating logistics and transportation strategies needs an integrative capability of both internal and external environment. In module 3, after students become familiar with the environments, formulation

7 of different logistics and transportation strategies, such as customer services, supply chain, innovative and change; will then be covered. The level of the course is required to be that of an honors degree and therefore a dissertation is included with the necessary preparation in research methodology. OBJECTIVES The course is intended for students who wish to deepen their understanding of a broad strategy course in logistics and transportation with a planning orientation. Students can learn the strategic tools, with special illustration with transport and logistics examples, so that they can integrate and apply them to their specific country environment. The main thrust of the course is one of relating logistics to business strategy. Specific learning objectives of the course are: i. To become familiar with certain elementary analytical concepts useful to analyze logistics and transportation environmental trends, customers, organization, finance, and cost dynamics. ii. iii. iv. To develop an understanding of the logistics and transportation strategic planning methods including strategic management and leadership, strategic environment, and organization level planning. To integrate and apply the concepts discussed onto the daily work. To be aware of ethical issues, sustainability and minimizing the impact of the organization and its operations on the global environment v. Local fees (tuition) is UGX 500,000 per paper, UGX 150,000 examination fees per paper, UGX 500,000 research seminar and supervision fee and UGX 40,000 admission fees. Duration The duration of the course is six months and will commence on Monday, September 4, Course delivery structure: The mode of course delivery will be on a part-time basis. Lectures would be held on Saturdays and Sundays 9:00AM - 5:00PM.
