5 Diagram Talking Points We are using a simplified variant of the OTM Help Example: Our network omits the Louisville cross dock and Cuyahoga Falls pool point We allow TL or LTL between Chicago and Cleveland Other legs are TL only Since we omit Louisville, we only have 5 network legs instead of the 7 shown in the diagram 1. 6 Our example Our example will show how OTM intelligently decides to route a small order release through the Indianapolis cross dock as a function of the other orders moving on the network Planned alone, LTL direct from Chicago to Cleveland is best, but planned with other orders, planning through the Indianapolis cross dock is best the Chicago to Cleveland order gets a free ride Page 6

7 Concepts OTM now allows you to indicate that an Itinerary leg expands into one or more network legs. You indicate this by specifying a network gid on the itinerary leg In our simple example, we have only a single USA to USA itinerary leg, which then references our five-leg network Page 7

8 Concepts When your itinerary leg references a network, OTM will use your network during bulk planning BUT only-if you have configured the appropriate planning parameters (details later) The entry points and exit points for your network MUST be a region, otherwise your network is not useable Page 8

9 Concepts If your network allows for rates that vary as a function of the order release weight or volume (i.e. LTL), then you MUST configure a routing logistics guide template and reference it from your planning parameters This essentially tells OTM what the typical size of an OTM shipment is in terms of weight or volume If you fail to configure a routing logistics guide template, OTM will ignore your LTL rates during network planning Page 9
