Leelanau County Dispatch Protecting our Community Response, Recovery & Restoration
Leelanau County is committed to providing excellence in emergency communications. We strive to serve as the communication link between our citizens, visitors and all of our emergency service agencies in Leelanau County by providing professional and courteous public safety communication and dispatch services.
A Little History In the Fall of 2004, the Board of Commissioners established a Stand Alone Communications Department under the direction of Emergency Management. Prior to that, was under the direction of the Leelanau County Sheriff s Office. Operations began on November 9, 2004, at 9:00am in the new Suttons Bay location.
Services Provided Receives requests for and handles dispatch of all police, fire and medical emergencies.
Other Services Provided Handles calls for non-emergency requests for services.
Services Provided Through their Emergency Management training programs, our dispatch staff assist in providing training for our Emergency Operations Center staff members through several training exercises each year, as well as E-Team training.
Services Provided Each Spring, we offer Weather Spotter/Awareness Training in cooperation with the National Weather Service.
Other Services Project Lifesaver is a collaborative project with the Commission on Aging, Sheriff s Office and Dispatch to provide an emergency transponder for lost or disoriented persons.
Services We work with the Commission on Aging to offer the Freedom of Alert program. A pendent is worn that allows 24/7 access to help in the event of an emergency by simply pushing the button to call We currently have over 140 active participants.
Services The Medical Alert program offers our citizens an opportunity to alert first responders of pre-existing medical conditions which could aid in treatment during an emergency. Over 300 persons have taken advantage of this service. We strongly encourage those living alone, stroke victims, heart disease patients, severe allergy patients, those with a history of seizures and others to take a few minutes before a medical event to complete a Medical Awareness Update form. Leelanau County Medical Awareness Update
Services Provided The E-Team Collaborative Software Program is Utilized For Emergency and Event Management. Active Participation in the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) Warrants are entered and maintained for District Court, Circuit Court, Family Court and GT Tribal Courts.
Services Provided Emergency Medical Dispatching with Priority Dispatch Leelanau County was the first center in this area to provide this protocol. Through the use of a few short questions, dispatchers can determine a proper level of response from the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers, thus increasing the safety to the general public, as well as EMS.
State-of-the-Art Phone System Our enhanced System helps dispatchers to locate callers in an emergency by providing a name, address and phone number of the caller. We are capable of receiving Phase II cellular calls. We receive non-emergency calls for the Sheriff s Office and transfer them to the appropriate party.
When a call comes into the Dispatch Center, the caller s name, address, and phone number appears in the left screen. Phase II The screen in the center shows the vary location that the call is coming from.
