Gemma Webster Marketing Executive Market Report February General U.K. economic growth is said to have slowed in the fourth quarter of 2010, as the economy expanded by 0.4%-0.5% in October-December, a reduction on the latest official growth figure of 0.7% for July-September. By contrast, manufacturing output was up strongly, led by exports. Clearly, economic risks remain. Exchange Rates Against the $, Sterling opened the month at 1.58 and stood at 1.55 as at January 10th. Against the Euro, it opened at 1.19 and increased to 1.20, as at January 10th. Crude Oil Energy costs continued to rise seasonally last month, with increases of 6% for Brent crude and 5% for ICE and NYMEX Light Crude. Rising Crude Oil costs provoked an increase of 4% in the wholesale price of E.U. diesel. Fats and Oils Vegetable Oil - Prices continued to rise, supported by concerns about oilseed crops in South America, following drought in Argentina. Rapeseed Oil - Prices rose 12%, because of increasing lack of supply in the oilseed complex. Palm Oil - Prices ended up 9%, as strong demand continues to deplete supplies. Malaysian Palm Oil output is set to decline for the second consecutive year, but output should increase from April, as the yield cycle is expected to improve. Soyabean - Prices rose 8%. Sunflower Oil - Prices rose 5%, given adverse weather. Dried Fruit Turkish Dried Apricots Prices rose 22%. Supply is low, as the current crop is only around half that of last year. Greek Currants - Prices have risen slightly. Prices for Turkish Sultanas and Californian Raisins ended up by 2%. Coconut Desiccated coconut prices rose 10%, as millers face constrained supply because of poor weather and rising demand for coconut oil. Cocoa Political problems in Ivory Coast continued to put pressure on Cocoa prices. Cocoa bean prices rose 10% on LIFFE, resulting in price rises for cocoa butter (+12%) and cocoa powder (+10%). U.K. Cocoa suppliers are attempting to ship as much cocoa as possible to the ports, in case the situation worsens. Dairy Skimmed Milk Powder - E.U. prices rose 5%, as the market has tightened. Whole Milk Powder - Prices rose 8% in the E.U. and New Zealand. Whey Powder - E.U. prices rose 5%. Butter - Prices were little changed but remain well above last year's level. Grains Grain prices saw further rises as adverse weather conditions continued to affect crops in some southern hemisphere countries. Milling Wheat prices rose 8%, as floods in Australia caused Wheat crop losses and quality issues, resulting in lower exportable supplies. E.U. Wheat spot prices also increased sharply by 10%, as global supply tightens further.

3 The first Bako own label product was launched approximately 20 years ago. Since then, we have launched many more and today, we are proud to say we have 190 products, spread over 33 categories. Most of the early launches were commodity items fats, salt and dried fruit, to name but a few. Over the years, however, we have successfully added finished products, such as muffins and frozen savouries, to the range. One of the main contributory factors to the Bako Brand s success is our rigorous selection process. Prior to each launch, extensive evaluation is undertaken, to ensure the products chosen offer you, our customers, good quality at a good price. In 2010, we embarked upon an intensive market research programme, with the aim of obtaining some detailed feedback from the people who know us best our customers! A section of the research focused on Bako Own Label and the following results were achieved: Of those customers surveyed, 95% regarded BAKO own label to be of good quality or better. 73% of customers said they would be more likely to purchase Bako Own Label products in the future, than any other brands. Over two thirds of those surveyed felt the ability to try and taste Bako Own Label products could encourage purchase. As you can imagine, we are delighted with these results and our future strategy is to build upon this solid foundation while, where possible, improving our own brand offering. This will be achieved by evaluating each and every Bako product, at least every year, as part of a full category review. Should we identify a product that no longer meets our brand criteria, we will strive to make improvements, which may involve recipe reformulation, or a change of supplier, but rest assured, your continued satisfaction will be top of our agenda! Several manufacturers were invited to submit samples to participate in the evaluation, all of which were subjected to a rigorous selection panel.
