Assignment 2 Posted by Nyashamike /03/30 19:10 Hi guys Anyone through with assignment 2 and would like to compare or discuss? Re: Assignment 2 Posted by hastehst /04/01 15:17 Its a bit tricky comparing written assignments i think. Re: Assignment 2 Posted by Nyashamike /04/02 19:05 I know but we can still discuss Posted by Brand /04/12 11:33 Hi Guys I would like to discuss the Assignment lets start with Q1 Posted by Jman /04/14 20:51 Why did you decide on those system names? The question mentions the ticket-processing system 1 / 20
Posted by Brand /04/15 12:19 QUESTION 1 The portion of the database used with the ticket-processing system involves driver data, ticket data, officer data, and court data. Driver data, officer data, and court data are read by the system, and the ticket-processing system creates and updates ticket data. In an integrated system like the ticket-processing system, some domain classes are created by and updated by other systems, as described in this case. Create a table with systems down the rows and the four types of data (domain classes) across the columns. Indicate C, R, U, or D for each domain class and each system. See the parts in red Posted by Jman /04/15 12:25 Brand05 wrote: QUESTION 1 The portion of the database used with the ticket-processing system involves driver data, ticket data, officer data, and court data. 3 3zzQ Posted by Jman /04/15 14:44 Ah.. I see. Makes a lot more sense now. Thanks! Posted by Brand /04/16 08:21 Anybody want to discuss Question 2 or any any of the other questions? Posted by Jman /04/16 18:08 Almost done if you are still interested Posted by Brand /04/16 19:52 Yes still intersted Posted by Jman /04/16 20:53 Done. Let me know how you want to do it Posted by randomguy /04/16 21:03 3 / 20
Done with 3 of the 5 questions. Still trying to figure out what to do for question 2 and 3... Just started reading the textbook this morning... anyone wanna compare answers when i am done? Posted by Brand /04/17 08:19 Hi Sorry I had some Internet problems last night, can we discussed the parts in Question 2 Whole-part hierarchies hierarchies that structure classes by components Aggregation whole-part relationships between and object and its removable parts Parts can exist separately Like car and its tires Composition whole-part relationships between and object and its non-removable parts. Parts cannot exist separately Like Hand is composed of fingers and thumb Posted by 3han /04/17 11:41 No Problem! I understand the difference between Aggregation and Composition, but it can sometimes be quite confusing. Take wheels for example. They can exist on their own (aggregation) but if you take it further, they can't cause they are made up of mags and tyres? Posted by Brand /04/17 11:56 Hi 3han, Yes it can be a little confusing. Why did you decide to add computer system? Regards, 4 / 20
Brand Posted by 3han /04/17 12:03 I guess I thought of all the main components of new cars lately and each of them are starting to show more advanced computer systems almost on the level of smartphones if not better. They also control many important aspects so that's why I included it. Not sure if it was necessary though. Posted by Brand /04/17 12:11 I understand, this is such a difficult question with the little info they are giving. I would like to know how they mark this question Posted by 3han /04/17 12:24 Yeah, especially with question 1. They ask the question without even hinting that you should go read the case study in the back of the book to know which systems are working together to produce and update the tickets. They will probably give you very low marks if you didn't read that case study and provided your "own" systems because of the limited info. And with Question 3, it seems weird that the system must know the current office location before it can prompt for the agent's information? This question seems to ask that you need to ad an Agent to a new office location, but at the same time it must look for the current location, so it shows that the agent is already working for the agency. They agent just probably wants to move location (for example from a Pretoria office to a Cape Town office). The above system in Q3 seems to work backwards. Why can't you for example just provide the ID Number of the agent to the system, the system in return will provide you with the Agent's profile which will give you his/her name, phone, , address and OFFICE LOCATION. Then you can just simply tell the system you want to modify the location. The system can then prompt you to enter the preferred location, the system can then check if there is available positions and if a position is found it can add the agent to the new location and save it to the database. Posted by Brand /04/17 12:50 5 / 20
I agree 100% Posted by tshivhpo /04/18 16:08 Question 5 Describe the risk factors associated with database design. The database is an important part of any IS (Information System), the performance and operation of the database is critical. Hence design decisions about what DBMS to use, how it s supposed to be configured, and how to best optimize it are usually quite complex and critically important. Another risk factor is in the integration process between the existing and the new databases. Because not all new systems function separately (Independent) from the old or existing systems and Databases in most cases there needs to be an interface between the systems and or databases.the seamless operation between the new systems is critical and also the existing configuration needs to also function without problems Good database design depends on having a complete or mostly complete problem domain model. While enhancing and adding tables and attributes is possible to already constructed databases, doing so can sometimes cause sub-optimization of data structures. Posted by Brand /06/15 15:52 Hi, anybody want to work on the 2013 papers I would like some help with the long questions as some of them looks difficult to understand exactly they want you to do? Posted by Jman /06/15 17:25 Yeah, going to start working on them tomorrow. Have you made any progress? 6 / 20
Posted by Brand /06/16 09:45 Hi I have only read through Exam so far, I am going to start shortly to work on it. Posted by Brand /06/16 11:23 I am starting with Exam and will update post as I go along, anybody that wants to participate is welcome. 8 Question 3 (Thanks Teee - I just redid it in Paradigm) Question 4 As discussed Suggestions as well as Friendlink may also be part of this diagram Question 5 Posted by hastehst /06/16 11:45 I am also starting with the exams papers today, figured I would stick the structured questions for today and do multiple choice questions tomorrow (question papers 2012_semester semester 2). I noticed they seem to get the exam questions from the book Systems Analysis and Design in a Changing World. Posted by Brand /06/16 12:19 Hi, yes the questions can be found under Problems and Exercises in your handbook as well Posted by Jman /06/16 12:24 Do they include the solutions? Posted by Brand /06/16 12:38 8 / 20
No, but you can buy the companion handbook the soltions is in there but it is expensive Posted by hastehst /06/16 12:39 No solutions at all. But if you have attempted the question, try searching the web for the question, a solution should crop up with the search results. Jman wrote: Do they include the solutions? Posted by Teee /06/16 12:44 Guys 3han posted a thread called "ICT Summaries, Powerpoints etc" earlier during the semester. Basically all the multiple choice questions that have shown up on previous exams are provided in the link from that thread. You can also find them here: under "Chapter Reviews" Also try this google search: org.mozilla There are a few reviews docs for some of the chapters. 10 Posted by Teee /06/16 12:58 This should also be helpful: Its a doc containing many different diagram questions and answers similar to the ones asked on past exams. Posted by Brand /06/16 13:14 You can download the 1st 4 Chapters of Textbook in Electronic form from here Textbook Posted by Jman /06/16 20:05 Have you started working through the written questions? Would like to compare what you understand about the question and what they are looking for. Have worked through 2013's May and Oct Exam papers Posted by Brand /06/16 20:29 Ok I am still busy with the written part I am looking at the Question 3 its more or less the same question on both May/June & Oct/Nov 2013 What I want to know is I see 4 Actors please correct me if I am wrong? 10 / 20
where do I put the Actors at the moment I have, on the left of the system and, on the right. then I would like how do you know which elipses do you group together (Ship items, Manage Shippers, etc.) and how do you select the order? any help would be appreciated Posted by Teee /06/16 22:00 I think the repetition of the "Ship Items" and "Manage Shippers" use cases was a mistake. I just copied the use cases into the diagram. I think lines would be crossing between actors if I did guillemets to show the relationship between Ship Items and Manage Shippers + Track Shipment. Also, that begs the question whether Look Up Order Status + Create Backorder +Create Item Return are also part of shipping...it gets messy. I'm not absolutely sure but I've attached my answer, there's no guillemets though. Sorry for the atrocious handwriting  Posted by Nyashamike /06/16 22:50 What I did is to put the Customer on the left side and the shipping, management and marketing on the right side. I just followed their diagram on pg 76, figure I also agree probably the repetition was a mistake. Posted by Teee /06/16 22:58 Did you add guillemets? I think the answer is satisfactory for 13 marks though. I don't think they'll expect something too fancy unless stated in a written scenario like "to ship an order the shipping clerk does blah blah blah" then I would use guillemets to display the breakdown of the "Ship an Order" use case. Posted by Brand /06/17 06:44 Hi thanks Tee, I do agree with you that the last 2 must be a mistake on OCT/NOV exam and the 11 / 20
May/June would just have a Respond to comments. I more or less did the same but mine looked a bit more messy,i had my Shipping and Management on the right of system and Customer and Marketing on the left, but I think the way you did it is more what the examiner had in mind. On to Q4 Oct/Nov 2013 I must confess this is a question that have me stumped. I do undertand that they want the following. - Draw Domain model diagram - Must be CSMS Marketing subsytem. Ok I think what throws me of is the CSMS Marketing subsytem, they do not give any detail to be honest I do not even know where to begin. Posted by 3han /06/17 08:44 I got a similar answer to Teee for Question 3. Mine just looked a bit messier. I Had Customer on the left and Shipping, Management and Marketing on the right, but that ended up with some lines crossing one another. I think Teee's answer will get you close to 13 marks if not all of it. My answers for Question 1: 1 = c 2 = d 3 = d 4 = d 5 = d 6 = c 7 = a 8 = d 9 = d 10 = a 11 = a 12 = a 13 = c (Not too sure how to work out this one?) 14 = c 15 = a 16 = d 17 = a 18 = b 19 = d 20 = a 21 = b 22 = d 23 = a 24 = a 25 = b 26 = a? 12 / 20
27 = d 28 = b 29 = a 30 = c Posted by Brand /06/17 08:59 Hi Guys I also found this site there is some nice stuff that you can download and links to tutorials and free software. Posted by 3han /06/17 09:00 Brand, I think your question 2 is correct. I made a similar diagram, but still struggling to use the correct wording for the activities Posted by Brand /06/17 09:10 Hi 3han, I do agree with almost all your answers to Q1, about 13 I am also not sure, 26 I found the answer to be b - look at this PPT Posted by 3han /06/17 09:25 Brand, yes you're correct. I actually did mark "b" and had a look again and thought the answer should be "a". B is correct because :Order is an object in a sequence diagram. 13 / 20
Posted by Nyashamike /06/17 10:21 I think on Question 4 they want us to extract domain model class for the marketing department. Eg the Promotion, PromoOffering, Product, ProductCOmment etc, anything that could be of interest for the Marketing department. That's how I understood it, maybe I am wrong Posted by Jman /06/17 10:25 Nyashamike wrote: I think on Question 4 they want us to extract domain model class for the marketing department. Eg the Promotion, PromoOffering, Product, ProductCOmment etc, anything that could be of interest for the Marketing department. That's how I understood it, maybe I am wrong I think you are correct. They refer to the "complete" DMC Diagram, then ask you to draw the marketing subsystem Posted by Brand /06/17 10:27 I did have the same idea this morning looking at the textbook at the Fig 4-21 and Fig Fig 4-22 that is more or less what they did - I think you have the right idea. What I am thinking it would be more or less all the items that was not included in the above mentioned figures Thanks for your help Posted by Nyashamike /06/17 10:27 How would you tackle question 4 of June 2013, am at a loss. Posted by Jman /06/17 10:36 14 / 20
Nyashamike wrote: How would you tackle question 4 of June 2013, am at a loss. Good question, I was looking at that one yesterday. I think they want the following sort of diagram They say "The first-cut sequence diagram focuses only on the problem domain classes" See the attachment for further explanation Posted by Nyashamike /06/17 10:59 Which ones should we consider the problem domain classes? Posted by 3han /06/17 11:01 Here is my answer to Question 4 of October 2013: Question 4 - Answer In this question you basically extract the related information and just copy and paste it? *Note I left out the attributes, I just wanted to complete the layout. Do you guys think it's answered correctly or did I miss a few things? Posted by Jman /06/17 11:33 Nyashamike wrote: Which ones should we consider the problem domain classes? Going to work through it now then compare Posted by Dez /06/17 11:43 It looks right but I would add the FriendLink to Customer as well as Message for marketing subsystem. Sorry for the bad writing Posted by Brand /06/17 11:45 Hi this is what I came up with for Q4, I was wondering if suggestion and friendlink should be included but was not sure Posted by Brand /06/17 11:48 Hi Jman, I do not think that is what they want for Q4 - the question is saying "draw a domain model class diagram for the CSMS Marketing subsystem" not a sequence diagram. Posted by Jman /06/17 11:49 Brand05 wrote: Hi Jman, I do not think that is what they want for Q4 - the question is saying "draw a domain model class diagram for the CSMS Marketing subsystem" not a sequence diagram. 16 / 20
We are looking at the June exam, not the Nov one :) Posted by Brand /06/17 11:50 Hi, 3han - I think it is more or less what they want it is difficult to decide what they want you to include and exclude. Posted by Brand /06/17 11:52 my appologies I thought you were talking about Nov Posted by 3han /06/17 12:05 Brand, seems you forgot a link from ProductComment to ProductItem :). I think suggestion is a good option to add. Marketing can use it decide on which products to market based on the suggestions from customers. FriendLink might also not be a bad option to include. Posted by Brand /06/17 12:08 Hi Guys, Look at this document I think it might help for May 2013 Q4 Posted by Brand /06/17 12:13 Thanks will fix now - I do agree. 17 / 20
Posted by Dez /06/17 12:20 Thanks Brand for May 2013 Q4 Posted by Nyashamike /06/17 12:46 Thanks Brand, I just hope they don't bring that question back Posted by Brand /06/17 13:00 Yes I agree not a fun question Posted by Brand /06/17 13:12 Have anybody atempt Question 5 of Nov2013 yet? Posted by 3han /06/17 13:24 I've done some rough work so far. The Question seems a bit weird. It says for creating a booking it should at least involve a student group, a resort, a week and a room type. But there aren't any CRC cards for Week or room type? I think the Reservation card is the most important one? Everything else basically connects to it? 18 / 20
Posted by Brand /06/17 13:43 I wam just going out and will be 3 then I will attempt Q5 Posted by 3han /06/17 13:56 This might be a stupid question. With system sequence diagrams (SSDs), are there basically two ways that a message can be sent from the actor to the system? For example in the book Figure 5-6 the actor sends a message: inquireonitem (catalogid, prodid, size) and the system returns a message: item information. For the 2nd option, could you have used the SSD notation? For example: item information := inquireonitem (catalogid, prodid, size). This will result in a single solid arrow pointing from the actor to the system? Almost like in figure 5-7. The (b) part make it just a little bit confusing because the := part is below the line (probably because the space was limited?). Posted by 3han /06/17 15:44 I'm not finished yet, but here is my first cut sequence diagram for Question 4, part a: May Q4a Posted by Dez /06/17 23:01 Finally completed Q5 Oct/Nov Sorry for the terrible writing :( Posted by Teee /06/18 00:27 3han you are right! Messages can be sent by either way. Dez will get back to you on that diagram! 19 / 20
Posted by 3han /06/18 10:02 Dez, I also cross my lines. I think in the exam at the back just draw a quick diagram and try to place them so that the lines wont cross. I'm not sure if they will mark it negative, but just in case. Posted by Jman /06/18 13:37 Hope it went well for everybody. Thank you for all the discussions here, it really helped a lot!!!! 20 / 20
