This new FX gel-powder combines the potent translucent soft-focus ability of boron nitride with the powdery velvet touch of the patented Velvesil chemistry. The addition of a trisiloxane greatly improves the dispersion of the boron nitride within the gel matrix for a more natural appearing, smoother deposition onto skin. This patent pending combination can deliver extraordinary natural coverage and an enhanced powdery dry sensory experience while assisting in the blurring of fine lines and wrinkles. Since the boron nitride is already incorporated into the gel matrix, the manufacturing process can be streamlined. A smooth stable dispersion with minimal agglomeration of boron nitride can be formulated using Velvesil FX gel-powder by simply adding it to the oil phase of a finished formulation. 3 Performance Data Improved Dispersion, Reduced Agglomeration The key element to having a smooth, translucent, natural finish is to have the boron nitride finely dispersed within a finished formulation. When Softouch* boron nitride is incorporated into the Velvesil gel matrix, in combination with caprylyl methicone, a phenomena occurs that results in reduced agglomeration and an excellent dispersion of the boron nitride particles. Two non-pigmented, universal foundations were drawn-down side by side. One foundation contained Velvesil FX gel-powder and the other foundation contained an equal amount of Softouch boron nitride, Velvesil gel and caprylyl methicone, but added individually to the formulation. 4 Ease of Manufacture Velvesil FX gel-powder, when used in an anti-aging cream, can produce an emulsion with a superior boron nitride dispersion. Since the Softouch* boron nitride powder is already deeply incorporated into the gel matrix, there is typically no need for additional manufacturing processing to disperse the boron nitride. 5 Sheer Coverage The complex dispersion of Softouch* boron nitride within the Velvesil gel matrix delivers an unexpected translucency that is not seen when boron nitride is used on its own. It can be theorized that when the volatile component of the gel has dissipated, the boron nitride is finely distributed within the gel matrix. This can provide a more translucent, natural appearance. In a simple emulsion, the results were obvious. Each emulsion in the evaluation contained identical concentrations of Softouch boron nitride, one concentration within the gel matrix and one concentration blended with cyclopentasiloxane. As seen in the photos below, the Velvesil FX gel-powder showed a translucency and naturalness not apparent in the cyclopentasiloxane blend. 6 Soft Focus Effect Softouch* boron nitride can impart an excellent soft focus effect. Furthermore, Softouch boron nitride dispersed within the Velvesil chemistry, also known for blurring fine lines and wrinkles, can provide even more potent results. Analyzing for haze with a Goniospectrophotometer produces data that can be translated into the effectiveness of a material to deliver a soft focus benefit. As can be seen below, at higher incident angles more light was scattered from the Velvesil FX gel-powder-containing formula. This showed the intrinsic capability of Velvesil FX gel-powder to scatter light at high angles, where it is most important for effective line blurring benefits. 8 The control formulation contained an identical concentration of Softouch* boron nitride but no gel structurant. Equal weights of the control formulation and Velvesil FX gel-powder formulation were applied directly to the forearm side by side. Photos were taken after the rub-in phase to visually demonstrate how quickly the Velvesil FX gel-powder formulation disappeared leaving a natural appearance versus the control (boron nitride only) formulation. There was also a clear preference for the sensory experience for this fast rub-in, moisturizing sunscreen with Velvesil FX gel-powder. An expert skin care panel evaluated the control (boron nitride only) formulation and the Velvesil FX gel-powder version of the formula for crucial personal care attributes. Each of the formulations were given a rating of 0-5 based upon how much of that attribute the formulation displayed during application. 9 Thickening Capability Silicone gels are well known for their ability to thicken the oil phase of a finished formulation. Velvesil FX gel-powder can be an important factor in increasing the complex viscosity of a product to improve the stability of an emulsion system (see page 10). 11 Compatibility Velvesil FX gel-powder is compatible with a wide range of personal care ingredients. The materials were tested at a 1:1 ratio. The Softouch* boron nitride will be suspended within the system, while the silicone portion is compatible. Interestingly, Velvesil FX gel-powder absorbs petrolatum into the gel-powder for a creamy, soft suspension, while with glycerin the gel-powder structure is maintained. EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SUPPLIERS STANDARD CONDITIONS OF SALE, SUPPLIERS AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVES SHALL IN NO EVENT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOSS RESULTING FROM ANY USE OF ITS MATERIALS, PRODUCTS OR SERVICES DESCRIBED HEREIN. Each user bears full responsibility for making its own determination as to the suitability of Suppliers materials, services, recommendations, or advice for its own particular use. Each user must identify and perform all tests and analyses necessary to assure that its fi nished parts incorporating Suppliers products, materials, or services will be safe and suitable for use under end-use conditions. Nothing in this or any other document, nor any oral recommendation or advice, shall be deemed to alter, vary, supersede, or waive any provision of Suppliers Standard Conditions of Sale or this Disclaimer, unless any such modifi cation is specifi cally agreed to in a writing signed by Suppliers. No statement contained herein concerning a possible or suggested use of any material, product, service or design is intended, or should be construed, to grant any license under any patent or other intellectual property right of Suppliers or any of its subsidiaries or affi liates covering such use or design, or as a recommendation for the use of such material, product, service or design in the infringement of any patent or other intellectual property right.
