5 Cerablanket TM / Cerachem TM / Cerachrome TM Blanket FEATURES Excellent insulating performance. Unaffected by most chemicals except hydrofluoric and phosphoric acids and strong alkalies. Excellent thermal stability: fibres have good resistance to devitrification. For some applications, it is possible to use Cerachrome Blanket above its classification temperature (shrinkage is 5% at 1500 C). Low heat storage. DESCRIPTION All three grades of blanket have the same excellent chemical stability compared with their raw materials: Cerafibre TM, Cerachem TM Fibre and Cerachrome TM Fibre spun bulk. They have excellent strength before and after heating. They have superior acoustic as well as thermal insulation characteristics. The wide range of available densities and thicknesses allow for the most effective deployment of the superior thermal characteristics in a wide variety of applications. TYPE Refractory fibre blankets CLASSIFICATION TEMPERATURE Cerablanket TM : 1260 C Cerachem TM Blanket: 1425 C Cerachrome TM Blanket: 1425 C The maximum use temperature depends on the application. In case of doubt, refer to your local Thermal Ceramics distributor for advice. 10 Insulating Firebricks JM DESCRIPTION Thermal Ceramics produces six grades of insulating firebricks with limiting temperatures of use ranging from 1260 C to 1790 C. Each grade is formulated to meet specific thermal and physical requirements. JM Firebricks are made from high-purity refractory clays, with graduated additions of alumina for the higher temperature products, and a carefully graded organic filler, which burns out during manufacture to give a uniform, controlled pore structure. Each brick is machined to precise tolerances on all six faces. Thermal Ceramics also produces a range of mortars to suit the different grades of brick. TYPE Insulating firebricks CLASSIFICATION TEMPERATURES FROM 1260 C up to 1790 C MAXIMUM CONTINUOUS USE TEMPERATURE The maximum continuous use temperature depends on the application. In case of doubt, refer to your local Thermal Ceramics distributor for advice. FEATURES Low thermal conductivity Gives good thermal insulation, enabling the use of thinwalled constructions. Low heat storage Due to their light weight and low thermal conductivity, JM bricks absorb minimal heat, giving significant energy savings in cyclically-operated kilns. Purity The very low iron and alkali flux content confers good refractoriness and the high alumina content contributes to their stability in reducing atmosphere. High hot compressive strength The accurate dimensions Enable the bricks to be laid more quickly, with thin, uniform joints, allowing the construction of strong and stable structures. Large bricks or slabs They are available in sizes 230 x 610 x 64 or 76mm and 250 x 640 x 64mm. These can be machined into special shapes, incurring fewer sections and joints. Purpose-designed packaging Protects the bricks in transit (in cartons containing 4 to 25 item, depending on shape) and facilitates on-site handling. TYPICAL APPLICATIONS Recommended for use as a primary hot face refractory lining or as back-up insulation behind other refractories in furnaces, kilns, flues, refining vessels and heaters, regenerators, gas producers and main, soaking pits, stress relieving furnaces, reactor chambers and similar high temperature industrial equipment. SPECIAL SHAPES In addition to the standard brick sizes, JM insulating firebricks are available in pre-machined special shapes. The blanks for very large shapes are formed by mortaring together two or more JM slabs, the unique large sizes of these slabs ensuring the least number of sections and joints in the finished article. A Thermal Ceramics distributor will be pleased to review your requirements. 9

12 JM 2600 / BLAKITE TM BLAKITE V / JM 3300 DESCRIPTION Thermal Ceramics refractory mortars are normally supplied as ready-to-use wet blends of finely-ground aggregates and special binders. They develop good strength on air drying, forming strong joints and conferring an almost monolithic structure to the brickwork. TYPE Refractory air-setting mortars. CLASSIFICATION TEMPERATURES JM 2600: 1430 C Blakite TM : 1650 C Blakite V: 1650 C JM 3300: 1760 C MAXIMUM CONTINUOUS USE TEMPERATURE The maximum continuous use temperature depends on the application. In case of doubt, refer to your local Thermal Ceramics distributor for advice. AVAILABLE TYPES JM 2600: This is an air-setting cement developed for use in lowertemperature applications, where a high-strength bond is required. It is recommended for mortaring insulating firebricks for operating temperatures up to 1430 C and can be used for both trowelled and dipped joints. Blakite: This is a highly refractory mortar, dark grey in colour, which has a high water-retention characteristic. It was specially developed for laying insulating firebricks but is also suitable for use with super-duty and high alumina dense refractory bricks, at operating temperatures up to 1650 C. It is supplied in a consistency suitable for shallow patching or trowelling but requires the addition of approximately 5% water for dipping. Blakite is a good choice as a single, general-purpose mortar on projects involving mainly insulating firebricks but also including some dense firebricks. Blakite V: This is the standard product with a harder consistency to be used to glue special refractory shapes and steel plates. JM 3300: A very highly refractory air-setting mortar suitable for laying JM 32 insulating firebricks, and high alumina dense refractory bricks and for operating temperatures up to 1760 C. FEATURES Good workability, ideal plasticity and water retention Low drying and firing shrinkages High refractoriness High bonding strength Good resistance to chemical attack Stability of chemical components APPLICATIONS For laying insulating firebricks, super-duty and high alumina dense refractory bricks Provide resistance to infiltration of air or hot gases Hobby and laboratory kilns Retard penetration of slag and molten metal into the joints 11
