1 PMA GP Assistant Practice Manager ILM Level 3 Diploma in Leadership & Management This course and qualification is ideal for those aspiring into a management role and who may subsequently move into full practice management. It is suitable for new or existing employees who are expected to develop the skills necessary to lead or manage teams. Candidates are expected to have some management responsibilities, like supporting, managing and developing team members, leading projects or planning and monitoring workloads and resources. They may also be responsible for delivering operational plans, resolving problems, or building work relationships with colleagues at the same level or above. Entry Requirements It is expected that the candidate will have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above. However, for long-standing employees, evidence of the ability to work at a Level 3 standard will be considered as an entry requirement. Induction This will include an initial assessment and is sector specific, the initial assessment will cover: Understanding of medical ethics and its impact on a role within a GP practice. Understanding the safeguarding implications of working within a GP practice. A skills-scan to take into account any prior learning that can be credited. 1. Leading & Managing People Understand a range of different leadership styles Understand the role of coaching within the workplace
2 Understand the importance of organisational culture Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace Understanding people and team management tools Understand Human Resource procedures and legal requirements Understand performance management for individuals This unit will be completed using a range of various types of evidence and will include an online examination. 2. Building Relationships & Communications Understand approaches to customer and stakeholder relationship management Understand cross team working Understand the importance of emotional intelligence in the workplace Understand the importance of conflict management in the workplace Understand the different forms of communications and their application Know how to chair a meeting Understand how to manage challenging conversations This unit will be completed using a range of various types of evidence to include an online examination. 3. Operational Management Understand how organisational strategy is developed Know how to effectively implement operational/team plans with the available resources Know how to manage change within a team Understand how data is used in the workplace This module will be assessed through a range of various types of evidence to include a mandatory professional discussion. 4. Project Management Understand the project lifecycle and roles within the project Know how to deliver a project Know how to manage project risks and issues
3 This module will be assessed through a range of various types of evidence and will include project management documents. 5. Finance Understand finance related governance and compliance Know how to deliver value for money Know how to set and monitor budgets This module will be assessed through a range of various types of evidence including a marked portfolio. 6. Awareness of Self Know how to be self-aware Understand inclusivity and unconscious bias Understand different learning styles Understand feedback mechanisms This module will be assessed through a range of various types of evidence to include a mandatory professional discussion. 7. Management of Self Understand approaches to personal development in planning for the workplace Be able to create an effective personal development plan Be able to maintain a continuous professional development log (CPD) This module will be assessed through a range of various types of evidence to include a mandatory professional discussion. 8. Problem Solving and Decision Making Understand problem solving and decision-making techniques Be able to use problem solving techniques to inform decision making Be able to escalate issues when required This module will be assessed through a range of various types of evidence to include a mandatory professional discussion.
4 End Point Assessment Candidates are supported and coached towards the End Point Assessment, gathering their portfolio of evidence for assessment. The End Point Assessment will comprise of: Workplace related interviews Assessment and collation of portfolio evidence Assessment of the work-based projects Mandatory professional discussion Depending on the employer, the candidate and the pace of work, the course will typically take between months to complete. A PMA Tutor/Assessor will be assigned to work with you throughout the duration of the course and will support you through your journey. There are normally 172 guided learning hours for the program and these will be delivered through face-to-face learning with your Tutor, online via the ILM Illuminate portal and Tutor observations. The time commitment to achieve your ILM Level 3 Diploma is in the region of 6 hours a week which includes the off the job element, this is flexible and should you have more time available your PMA Tutor/Assessor will be able to adjust your pace of learning accordingly.
5 PMA GP Practice Manager ILM Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management The PMA GP Practice Manager ILM Level 5 Diploma course is designed for those already working in an established management role. It is set at a standard suitable for those who are managing teams or projects and are responsible for achieving operational or departmental goals as part of their organisations strategy. They may be accountable to a more senior manager or the business owners. Other responsibilities may include managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring. Entry Requirements It is expected that the candidate will have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above. Alternatively, employees with long-standing evidence of work to a Level 5 standard may apply if they are supported by their employer. It should also be noted that the candidate will need to achieve Level 2 in English and Mathematics prior to their End Point Assessment, if they haven t done so prior to entry. The candidate will receive support in their learning to help them achieve this. Operational Management Understand operational management Understand business development tools Understand operational business planning techniques Knowledge of management systems, processes and contingency planning Understand how to initiate and manage change by identifying barriers and know how to overcome them Understand data security and management, and the effective use of technology in an organisation. 4. Building Relationships Understand approaches to partner, stakeholder and supplier relationship management including negotiation, influencing, and effective networking Knowledge of collaborative working techniques to enable delivery through others and how to share best practice Know how to manage conflict at all levels.
7 5. Communication Understand interpersonal skills and different forms of communication and techniques (verbal, written, non-verbal, digital) and how to apply them appropriately. Be able to chair a meeting and present information 6. Project Management Know how to set up and manage a project using relevant tools and techniques and understand process management Understand approaches to risk management Be able to evaluate the effectiveness of a project 7. Finance Understand business finance, how to manage budgets and financial forecasting. Know how to set and manage a budget Understand the methods of financial forecasting 8. Self-Awareness Understand own impact and emotional intelligence. Understand different and learning behaviour styles. Be able to reflect on one s own working style and performance Be able to plan activities based on learning styles 9. Management of Self Understand different approaches to planning own workload Understand time management techniques and tools, and how to prioritise activities and the use of different approaches to planning, including managing multiple tasks. Know how to plan you own personal development (CPD)
8 Be able to use time management and prioritisation techniques. 10. Decision Making Understand problem-solving and decision-making techniques, including data analysis. Understand organisational values and ethics and their impact on decision making. Be able to critically analyse and evaluate data.
