England and Wales Stratford Contract 12 months Purpose of job We re Mind, the mental health charity. We won t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect. We provide advice and support to empower anybody experiencing a mental health problem and we campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. Mind employs about 300 staff and we have a small team of volunteers. Most staff are based in Stratford, London, there is an office in Cardiff and there are a number of dispersed staff working across England and Wales. You will be responsible for project managing the ongoing development of RED January, a movement 1

2 helping people support their mental wellbeing through exercise. The aim of RED January is to encourage people to kick-start their year by getting active every day throughout January, whilst helping to make a difference to people s live, including their own. Mind are the exclusive charity partner on RED January. This is an exciting opportunity to develop the activity as it enters its fourth year. As the first ever supporter-led initiative at Mind, this is a unique opportunity to work closely with the founder of this growing movement, whilst also being a vital part of Mind, the leading mental health charity. Scope of job The Community, Events & Fundraising Development Team sits within the Public Fundraising Unit and is made up of a Head of Community & Events Fundraising Marketing & Innovation; an Events Fundraising Manager, three Event Fundraising Officers, four Events Fundraising Coordinators; a Community Fundraising Manager, three Community Fundraising Officers, five Community Fundraising Coordinators; and one Fundraising Development Manager, two Fundraising Development Officers, one Fundraising Products and Projects Officer and three Community & Events Fundraising Administrators. The team raises approximately 11 million gross income per year for Mind s work. Working alongside the RED January Founder and reporting to the Head of Community & Events Fundraising Marketing & Innovation, you will be responsible for project managing the ongoing development of the RED January & Mind partnership and activity, leading the internal cross-organisational project group and collaborating on the development of the strategy, budget and forecasts, operational plans, communications plans, stewardship plans and reporting and evaluation. You will lead two Events Fundraising Coordinators to develop and deliver stewardship programmes for RED January participants to provide a nourishing and personal experience, support the RED community with their efforts to keep active and maximise their fundraising potential, helping to retain new and existing REDers. You will be responsible for line managing two Events Fundraising Coordinators, ensuring they meet their objectives including conducting regular supervisions and annual appraisals. Mind aims to ensure that our strategy and all our activities fully reflect the needs and interests of mental health service users, women, black and minority ethnic communities, vulnerable migrants, people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer or transgender, and people with physical, cognitive or sensory impairments, with mobility impairments, or with learning difficulties, with full regard to their age, background and personal circumstances. You will be expected to contribute to this aim. Key Responsibilities 1. Project manage the ongoing development of RED January through development of operational plans including planning, implementing, developing, monitoring and evaluating marketing, stewardship and fundraising plans. 2. Manage two Events Fundraising Coordinators, ensuring staff have the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake their role effectively and are line managed in accordance with Mind s values, competencies, policies and procedures including supervision and appraisal. 3. Develop and manage the RED January budget and forecasts including operational budgets. 2

Coordinate the RED January Project Group, arranging regular meetings and developing action plans to maximise the identification, development and delivery of opportunities for RED January within relevant departments. 5. Represent RED January at key internal and external meetings and events to increase awareness of the RED January brand and impact and maximise opportunities for further growth. 6. Input into the development of the RED January marketing strategy, identifying, developing and implementing print and online marketing campaigns to target audiences, including existing and new REDers. 7. Support the overall development and maintenance of the RED January online community ensuring the stewardship and fundraising journeys are reflected in content and participants are engaged with in a timely and meaningful way 8. Develop the RED January fundraising strategy, identifying and advising on potential areas of growth 9. Develop the RED January stewardship strategy, identifying and advising on ways to support the RED community with their efforts to keep active and provide a nourishing and personal experience 10. Manage the Events Fundraising Coordinators to deliver stewardship and fundraising strategies, delivering high quality customer care 11. Input into the development of RED January resources including website, e-newsletters, marketing, fundraising and other materials in print and online and photo/video content ensuring all materials meet brand guidelines and values 12. Work with the Supporter Services and Operations and Data Teams to ensure accurate and effective use of the database and that they meet agreed SLAs on supporter stewardship and processing of personal and financial information 13. Manager working relationships with key event suppliers, agreeing and monitoring delivery against contracts and service level agreements and ensuring all key deadlines are met 14. Provide reports and forecasting against agreed KPIs including income and expenditure, registrations and supporter satisfaction. 15. Prepare and present the RED January 2019 evaluation and make recommendations ahead of RED January Ensure RED January activities are in compliance with key legal and statutory requirements including Data Protection, charity regulatory bodies and contracting. 17. Keep abreast of changes in events fundraising, the charity sector, the health and fitness sector and mental health sectors; proactively inform the organization as appropriate of relevant changes and their implications. 18. Deal tactfully and sensitively with people experiencing mental health problems, adhering to Mind s Safeguarding and Incident Management process when required. 19. Undertake any other duties of comparable nature as may be required from time to time 3

Attend and contribute to team meetings, supervision, appraisal process, Mind staff training and any other training identified as appropriate for the post. 2. Ensure that all responsibilities and activities within this post are consistent with the terms and spirit of Mind s policies and RED January s values. 3. Maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality at all times. 4. Occasionally travel to meetings in England and Wales and/or work unsociable hours, which may require the need for an overnight stay, evening and weekend work. 5. Strong, demonstrable project management experience including devising and managing marketing strategies. 2. Track record of reaching individual income targets managing budgets including forecasting, monitoring and regular reporting of outcome against target. 3. Experience of line management including appraisal, supervision and training and development needs; ability to delegate and manage individuals to meet agreed performance targets. 4. Proved experience of using digital marketing and social media for event promotion 5. Experience of managing third-party suppliers to agreed SLAs. 6. Experience of writing reports and evaluations on activities, summarising and analysing figures to make recommendations. 7. Understanding of and commitment to the values and aims of Mind and RED January. Skills 1. Excellent team working skills. 2.
