2 SEEC technique Application areas A NEW WAY TO ANALYSE YOUR SAMPLE! SEEC* technique is a label free quantitative imaging technique for live imaging, surface interaction studies and topographic analyses at the nanoscale. The SEEC technique implements unique optical sensitive sensors (SEEC sensors) for sample detection and a proprietary algorithm (Q-SEEC) for quantitative measurements. SEEC Sensors have a unique property to preserve the polarisation state of the light after surface reflection. Any nanometric sample deposited on the SEEC sensor leads to a modification of the polarisation of the light, rendering it visible. Q-SEEC algorithm enables the determination of the sample thickness. It exploits the evolution of RGB components created by the light interference to convert each image pixel into a thickness value. Polarisation state after surface reflection RBG evolution vs. sample thickness LIFE SCIENCES CELL & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY Immunology Protein Lipids Cells/Bacteria PHARMACEUTICALS & DIAGNOSTICS Molecular screening Lipid membranes & vesicules Biosensors Drug discovery MEDICAL DEVICES & BIOMATERIALS Surface coating Physiological interactions CLEANING & SURFACTANTS Amphiphilic molecules Enzymes Biofilms MATERIALS THIN FILMS & COATING Polymer thin films Self Assembled Monolayers Polyelectrolytes NANOPATTERNING Microspotting Nanolithography NANO-OBJECTS Nanoparticle interactions Toxicology Environment ENERGY & ELECTRONIC Conductive layers Nanotubes Oil & Gas *SEEC: Surface Enhanced Ellipsometric Contrast

7 SEEC applications Multiplex surface interaction tracking Multiplex surface converage analysis Multiplex monitoring of enzymatic reaction (4-8nm) Fibronectin layer consumption by dendritic cells (0.1-3nm) Coll.: A.Egea, C.Vieu et al. (LAAS-Toulouse, Fr) Coll.: E.Terriac, N.Carpi, M.Piel et al. (Institut Curie-Paris, Fr) SEEC study was performed to monitor a dynamic dextransucrase-based enzymatic reaction. Biochemical reactions taking place on 5µm-diameter enzymatic plots were tracked but also fully characterized (imaging and topography). Live imaging and characterization of the consumption of a 3nmfibronectin layer by dendritic cells is performed SEEC Microscopy. Surface coverage decrease as a function of time is followed in realtime and without any dye. Complete topographic analysis Live nanoscale characterization Defects detection on nanopatterning structures (70-300nm) Characterization of polyelectrolyte build-up in solution (5-30nm) Coll.: H.Taylor (MIT-Cambridge,US) Embossing is performed on a homogeneous PMMA spin-coated layer to create well-defined nanostructures. Morphology of the elaborated structures is analyzed at different range of fields of view (from mm² to µm²). Coll.: F.Boulmédais et al. (ICS-Strasbourg,Fr) Topographic analyses enable the live measurement of the layer thickness and roughness. PSS/PAH multilayers are studied in dry and in liquid to estimate the swelling ratio of the stacking.
