3 Sectin A: Nise Panel Systems (Empire Silent Screen Nise Abatement System) v The EAS Silent Screen Panel System is engineered fr acustical enclsures and nise barriers where structural integrity, sund absrptin and transmissin lss are f majr cncern. Silent Screen panels are designed fr bth indr and utdr applicatins. Acustical Perfrmance Standards Has Nise reductin cefficient f 1.05 when measured in accrdance with the requirements f ASTM C423. Has STC = 35 when tested in accrdance with the requirements f ASTM E90. Silent Screen Panels The panels are fabricated frm 16 and 22 gauge cld-frmed sheet steel. The panels have a width f 12 inches and a thickness f 2¾ inches. The panel face tray is made f 22 gauge perfrated cld-frmed steel and has 3/16 inch diameter perfratins in a 3/8 inch staggered pattern. The panel back tray is made f 16 gauge nn-perfrated cld-frmed steel. The panel back tray is filled with six pund density mineral rck wl. Maximum panel length is 14 befre intermediate bracing is required. Sund strikes the perfrated side; mst f it passes thrugh the perfratins and is absrbed by the acustical material, while sme is reflected back t the surce f the nise. The remaining sund which is transmitted thrugh the barrier is substantially reduced. Material and Finishes Silent Screen Panels shall be fabricated frm 16 and 22 gauge cld-frmed sheet steel. Cnfrms t the structural quality and galvanized in accrdance with ASTM A-653, Class G-90. Melts abve 2,750 Degrees Fahrenheit, has a flame spread f 15 r less and a smke develpment f 0 when tested in accrdance with ASTM Standard E-84, is rated incmbustible by ASTM Standard E-136. Finish: The panels will be galvanized and will be painted with a pwder cating paint system. EAS Standard Clr Guide available n request. Page 3 f 13

4 Mineral Rck Wl (see attached data sheets) cnfrms t Federal Specificatins HH-1-558B and ASTM Standard E-136 and has the fllwing characteristics: Has a density f 6 punds per cubic ft. Is nn-hygrscpic and absrbs less than 1% water. Melts abve 2,000 Degrees Fahrenheit, has a flame spread f 15 r less and a smke develpment f 0 when tested in accrdance with ASTM Standard E-84, is rated incmbustible by ASTM Standard E-136. Quality Assurance EAS prducts will cnfrm t the required quality and perfrmance standards. EAS panels, trims, accessries shall be installed in accrdance with the apprved shp drawings t ensure the required quality standards. Warranty EAS shall warrant fr a perid f ne year that the panels, trims and accessries furnished by the manufacturer shall be free frm defects in materials and factry wrkmanship. Paint finish warranties shall be the paint manufacturers standard fr wall panels and trims. Page 4 f 13

5 Sectin B: Clr Cating System: Pwder Cating Prcess: Under this system, EAS begins with cils that are bare galvanized. The cating prcess invlves: Putting the panels (flashing material, etc.) thrugh a wash system. Dry ff stage fr the wash system as parts need t be dry befre pwder cating. The panel parts are then run thrugh the pwder cating bth where they are clr cated individually. The cated panel parts are then cured and baked in an ven fr the specified time at apprpriate temperature. The material is tested at varius prcess pints t ensure that paint specificatins and specified quality cntrl parameters are met. Critical Perfrmance Characteristics fr Pwder Catings: Sme f the perfrmance characteristics in accrdance with the ASTM test prcedures are as fllws: Adhesin (per ASTM D 3359) n failure with 1/16 squares Flexibility (per ASTM D 522) Pass 1/8 Mandrel Bend Hardness (per ASTM D 3363) 2H Reverse Impact (per ASTM D2794) 140 Dir./140 Rev Specular Glss (per ASTM D 523) 80+ at 60 degrees The cmplete prduct specificatins and perfrmance prperties are available upn request. 6 Advantages: Envirnmentally friendly The pwder is stred in sealed cntainers in cl and dry cnditins. The pwder in itself is envirnmentally friendly. N slvents t handle. The pwder is mixed in the gunning tank and des nt require any slvents. Prduct is ready t apply, n adjustments needed. One cat applicatin fr textures and high film build prducts. Multiple clr finishes in single cat applicatins. Gd resistance t chipping and scratching. Excellent abrasin and chemical resistance. Cleaning and Maintenance f Panel Systems: The panel systems made with Pwder Cating system, under regular wrking envirnment, have shwn remarkable resistance t exterir chalking, fading, cracking and the effects f chemicals and ultravilet rays. Hwever at the same time the cil cated panels ffer a relatively nn-adherent and inert surface t undesirable materials. Remval f undesirable materials frm the surface f cil cated, factry-finished bake enamels shuld always be limited t mild sapy water r mild cleaners, fllwed by a clean water rinse. Hwever, it is recgnized that ccasinally prblems ccur, such as verspray frm air-dry painting in the area, graffiti, r ther incidental prblems. Since these bake enamels are cmpsed f resins and pigments which can be adversely affected by strng chemicals, extreme care shuld be exercised in any remval activities. It is very imprtant that all cleaners and slvents, as listed belw in Steps A thrugh D, be first tested n a less visible area, t determine if there are any ptentially negative effects f the cleaning prcess. Cleaning shuld nt be attempted if there is any damage, such as abrasin, scuffing, dulling, burnishing, etc., dne t the film in the test area. The fllwing sequential prcedures are suggested: A.) Unless the cnditin is clearly undesirable, it is ften best t d nthing at all. This is ften the case with light, unintentinal verspray; it will prbably be remved by the elements in a relatively shrt perid f time. B.) If, hwever, remval is deemed necessary, first try washing with mild sapy water r a mild husehld cleaner such as Fantastic. Smetimes the use f a minimally abrasive Tefln-type Page 6 f 13

7 pad gives just enugh physical actin t succeed. Please nte: Repeated rubbing with abrasive cleaners and/r pads is likely t result in a scuffed surface, which will nt nly be unsightly, but will als decrease the service life f the factry finish and vid warranty cverage. C.) If Step B fails t address the prblem in a satisfactry manner, a slightly mre aggressive apprach wuld be t wipe the surface with either mineral spirits r VM&P Naphtha. These slvents are ften used in air drying. Mineral spirits evaprates slwly and will wrk best in warm weather n warm metal. VM&P Naphtha evaprates rapidly, and will wrk best in cl weather n cl metal. D.) If steps B and C have nt prduced satisfactry results, mre aggressive armatic slvents, such as xylene ( xyll r m-xylene ) r tluene ( tlul ) may be used very carefully, being sure t limit the amunt f slvent t the minimum necessary, t nly dampen a clth and with the time f expsure t secnds r less n any given area. Xylene has a mderate evapratin rate and is best suited fr warm metal in warm weather. Tluene evaprates faster, and is better suited fr cl weather n cl metal. Nte: Strnger slvents, such as any type f ketne, shuld never be used t clean factry finishes damage t the cating is extremely likely t ccur and will vid any warranty cverage. E.) The lnger that the factry applied, baked enamel surface has been in service, the mre susceptible it will be t damage caused by prcedures designed t remve undesirable depsits frm its surface. It is therefre imprtant that all cleaners and slvents be first tested n a less visible area, t determine the ptential effects f cleaning. Cleaning shuld nt be undertaken if there is any damage, such as abrasin, scuffing, dulling, burnishing, etc., dne t the film. Such damage autmatically vids warranty cverage. Als, the lder the riginal surface, the greater will be the likelihd that the cleaned area will result in a smewhat different appearance, due t the remval f dirt and natural degradatin f materials frm the cleaned area. 8 Sectin C: Packing, Material Handling and Installatin Packaging: EAS Silent Screen Panels are packaged and shipped flat n a wden pallet. The maximum length f the panels is 14 ft and apprx. 60 panels are packed n each pallet (depending n the length f the panel). The panels are placed n the pallet in 4 rws and then vertically stacked. Care is taken while stacking the panels s that there are n scratches n the panels. Additinally fam strips are placed between each f the panels at multiple lcatins t ensure that the panels d nt rub against each ther. The panels nce stacked are shrink-wrapped and then bund by steel bands n all sides t ensure that the panels d nt mve. Cmputerized packing slips indicating the length f the panels, number f panels and ther infrmatin are attached t the panels befre shrink wrapping. These packing slips are visible t visual inspectin. See Picture 1 fr illustratin. Picture 1 Pallet The panels are then mved t the lading dck where they are laded nt trucks using a frk lift. See Picture 2 fr illustratin. Picture 2 - Lading Page 8 f 13

9 The pallets are laded n a flat bed truck side by side (in sme cases a bx truck may be used). The pallets are nt laded n tp f each ther as they might damage the panels n the lwer pallet while in transprt. See Pictures 3 and 4 fr illustratin. Picture 3 Picture 4 The pallets, nce laded, are tarped with water resistant material t ensure that the panels reach the destinatin safely. See picture 5 fr illustratin. Picture 5 Page 9 f 13

10 Receiving: Upn arrival f the panels at the jbsite, the cntractr is respnsible fr inspecting the shipment fr damage, shrtages etc. If damage r shrtage is bserved, a claim must be filed with the carrier at nce, and the delivery dcuments must be nted. If there is cncealed damage r shrtage the carrier and the cmpany must be ntified immediately. Phtgraphs f the damaged cmpnents in their riginal packages will be needed in submitting the claim. Claims must be submitted within 72 hurs f delivery. Unlading: We recmmend using a frk lift fr unlading the pallets frm the truck. The maximum pallet weight is apprximately 4,800 punds. Strage: As the panels will usually be installed within a few weeks f receipt, care shuld be taken t stre them at cnvenient lcatins t minimize handling during erectin. The shrink wrapping shuld be remved nly at the time f installatin f the panels. The pallets shuld be stred reasnably level, but slightly slped t allw fr drainage. The pallets shuld nt be stacked ne ver the ther. If the panels need t be stred fr a lnger perid f time, they shuld be stred and prtected in a cvered, dry lcatin that prvides fr gd air circulatin, is shielded frm direct sun light and is free frm the effects f crrsive envirnments. Material Handling: The panels shuld be carried n edge in a vertical psitin fr stiffness. Care shuld be taken t avid carrying them hrizntally/flat as bending r warping may ccur. Installing Panels: Installatin will be per the Apprved plan set. Page 10 f 13

11 Sectin D: Durability EAS wall systems are designed t minimize csts, are light weight, easy t install, aesthetically pleasing and designed t be virtually maintenance free ver the expected lifetime f a typical installatin. The panels are fabricated frm galvanized (G-90) steel and may be pwder cated depending n the applicatin. Furthermre, the design f the panels themselves eliminates the use f fasteners, thereby reducing any chance f rust setting in thrugh the drilled hles fr the fasteners. The pwder cating f the panels extends the life f the panels thereby reducing the susceptibility t chemical deteriratin and abrasin as well as minimizes the effects f weathering. As the panels are used fr utdr applicatin ver the lifetime f the installatin ne will see sme weathering effects but these will nt be significant. Similarly the structural psts used fr installing the panels are galvanized and may be painted r pwder cated depending n the custmer requirement. This reduces the susceptibility f the structural psts t any chemical deteriratin and abrasin. Frm the design perspective the nise walls are designed based n current AASHTO standards and are designed fr wind speeds in excess f 140 mph depending upn the regin and specified parameters.
