2 elastn - a new building material envitec The bject f the elastn Ltd. prcess is the utilizatin f rest materials and waste t a nn-brittle, nn-txic, nn-flammable material absrbing sund, vibratin and radiatin as well as insulating heat. Surce materials f the prcess are cnventinal industrial and dmestic waste f synthetic material like secnd-hand fils, cans, barrels, bttles, bxes, packaging made f synthetic material, cmpund material, industrial waste, rests f wd, raw materials grwing again, wash etc. The surce materials are reduced t small pieces, if necessary agglmerated (plastics) and made rid f freign substances (amng thers aluminium), and treated by the additin f mineralizers, water and cement. The cmplete prcess is patented. The further prcessing f the prduced building material is easily pssible fr the cncrete industries by standard technlgies. 3 Physical basics The surce material, which is reduced t small pieces, is prcessed in an agglmeratr. In cnnectin with the mineralisatin fllwing immediately, strngly fastened inrganic crystal structures are frmed in the rganic surface f the material. Amng thers, there are there are crystalline brder layers remaining in the rganic substances surrunding. These layers functin as crystallizatin cres fr the frmatin f the cement matrix. pllutants inslubly included in the crystal structures (decntaminatin f the surce material). The crystals appearing n the surface can nt be mechanically remved anymre. 4 Suggestins fr the applicatin Its characteristic qualities make elastn predestinated fr the use in landscape layut / landscape gardening. These qualities are in particular the gd water strage capacity and water cnductivity as well as its frstresistance and elasticity. The pssibility t have rts grwing n elastn withut impairing its qualities as well as the pssibility t cmbine it with cnventinal materials result in interesting variatins fr landscape layut / landscape gardening. Prefabricated pieces, e.g. frm stnes with hles fr plants, may be used fr the fastening f slpes r embankments (with r withut plants). Furthermre, prefabricated pieces, used in cmbinatin with elastn as scattering material, e.g. fr walk and cycle tracks, r fr the redevelpment f curses f rivers (see back f dam, picture) pen widespread fields f applicatin. ElaStn can in sme frms be used as means t guide streams f water purpsefully, e.g. as scattering material, r in cmbinatin with waterprf ge-textiles. The waterand gas-permeability f elastn layers make this material apprpr iate fr upper and intermediate cverings f dumps. 5 The prductin f nn-mineral additives Reductin t small pieces The surce materials have t be reduced t a certain fractin size. Plastics shuld be shreddered as far as pssible, s that prcessing in an agglmeratr custmary in trade is made pssible. Pieces f wd shuld have an average size f apprximately mm after its redutin t pieces. The textiles have t be reduced t small pieces with an average fibre length f 5-45 mm. Washes have t be dry (air-dry) and in the frm f lse material. Agglmeratin (plastics nly) The agglmerate necessary fr the prductin f the additive can be manufactured in cnventinal agglmeratrs. There are nly synthetic materials, which can be prcessed as srted r mixed fractins, used as surce material fr the agglmerate. The necessity f reductin f the material t small pieces befrehand by means f cnventinal technical facilities (shredder, mill) depends n the perfrmance f the agglmeratr. Negligible pllutins (e.g. paper, cardbard, glass, metal, nn-irn metals) f the synthetic material d nt have any damaging effect, apart frm aluminium. Aluminium, aluminium-cated substances and substances cntaining aluminium have t be remved frm the fractin as entirely as pssible befre charging the agglmeratr. Pllutins caused by aluminium that are nt remved in the prductin prcess cause gases in the fresh cncrete by chemical reactins with the additive. These gases can cause impairments especially in cncrete f highly cndensed structure. Very small amunts f remaining aluminium are cated in the agglmeratr by the synthetic material and d therefre n lnger have any damaging effect. As can be prved, the small rest f aluminium remaining in the agglmerate des nt lead t any impairment f quality at the prductin f permeable building cmpnents (e.g. nise barriers, rf plantings, fastenings f embankments). During the agglmeratin prcess it has t be paid attentin t the necessity t transfrm the surce material int a plastic cnditin and, mrever, t mix it up as well as pssible in rder t achieve a hmgeneus substance. The prductin prcess f the agglmerate may be influenced in that way that certain average grain sizes f the agglmerate are manufactured. This quality is purpsefully used fr the prductin f sieve characteristics, n the base f which repeatable frmulae may be wrked ut fr the prductin f the use f the additive. The grain size and the density f the agglmerate the additive is prduced f influence the quality f the building material manufactured f it, similar t cnventinal additives fr light-weight cnstructins. Mineralising In rder t be able t use agglmerate as an additive, it has t be mineralised, i.e. crystals have t be brught n the surface f the agglmerate serving as adherent frces between the synthetic material and the cement matrix (cncrete). This mineralising is achieved by misturizing the cmplete agglmerate with a mineralising liquid. All substances reacting latently hydraulically and which are n mineral base can be applied as mineralising liquid. The prcess f mineralising can be influenced by the cncentratin f the liquid r the time the liquid affects the agglmerate. Cementatin (prductin f cncrete) A certain amunt f the additive (e.g. agglmerate mineralised in a sil) is pured n a cnveyr belt and prcessed analgusly t additives fr light-weight cncrete. The pssibility f repetitin f the frmulae is guaranteed. Output (use fr giving shape, fillings, scatterings) The building material prduced frm the additive is easily t be mulded and can be cndensed (e.g. by means f vibratin table, swing table, frm stne machines). It can be mixed with additinal substances (e.g. set acceleratrs, liquefier, fam) and sets analgusly t cncrete.
