2 Memphis Housing Authority (MHA) Summary In 2011, Memphis Housing Authority will diligently continue one of its primary goals of providing affordable, quality and safe communities for Memphis citizens in need of low income housing. The influx of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 Capital Stimulus Funds rendered needed resources necessary for the rehabilitation of our existing housing stock and acquisition of new dwelling units by way of investing in mixed-income, mixed-finance developments. Over the next few years, Capital Improvements Programs for the aging high rise structures (Borda Towers, Barry Towers, Jefferson Square, Venson Center) and Montgomery Plaza will consist of: (1) Exterior finishes modernization and repairs; (2) Interior finishes upgrades; (3) American Disabilities Act (ADA) code compliance upgrades; (4) Site improvements, infrastructure modifications, and dwelling units overhaul. The horizon is bright for the MHA and the City of Memphis as MHA seeks to revitalize and sustain the City s aging neighborhoods, such as New Chicago. The 2010 year brings a new beginning for this community as MHA and the City generate momentum towards remediating and demolishing dilapidated buildings and takes an aggressive approach towards developing Memphis neighborhoods as Neighborhoods of Choice.
3 ASKEW PLACE 521 Vance Park Place Memphis, Tennessee (901) NUMBER OF HOMES: Twenty-five (25) single-family homes and public housing rental units for residents with working preference ranking. AMENITIES: Master bedroom, central air-conditioning, energy efficient construction, intrusion protection system, gazebo, landscaping, gutter and downspout installation, roof covering, decking and fascia repairs, replace playground equipment and surface replace canopy overhangs at dwelling units, rear access door, rehab work for 40 heavily damaged and fire damaged dwelling units, repairs for playground equipment and surface.
