1 Trends in photovoltaic applications Latest results from The IEA- Programme Surveys G Watt, P Hüsser, I Kaizuka & P Cowley on behalf of IEA Programme, Task 1 The Programme Collaborative R & D agreement established within the IEA since The 19 participating countries are Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The European Commission and EPIA are also members. Other countries participate in some activities. 1
2 Our key activities An important deliverable of Task 1 is the annual Trends in photovoltaic applications report 11 published since 1995 Largely based on the information provided in the National Survey Reports which are produced annually by each Task 1 participant. Process of compiling Trends National Survey Report Collecting data from NSR from each country Info from non- Draft Draft Editing, analyzing by by Task 1 and other experts Review of of data, figures and tables, and texts by by Task 1 experts Publication (Printed, Web) 2

5 Strong government support - trends Over a decade, public spending on PV has doubled, with relatively steady increases from year to year; Initially this spending was largely focused on RD&D; The amount spent on market stimulation increased at the expense of RD&D (in both absolute and relative terms) until 21; 24 saw the previously steadily increasing budgets for market stimulation decrease for the first time in a decade; From 21 RD&D expenditure has been steadily increasing again, and also increasing its share of the total PV public expenditure. A variety of support mechanisms..and potential outcomes 1. Enhanced feed-in tariffs 2. Direct capital subsidies 3. Green electricity schemes 4. Renewable portfolio standards 5

Location: Zurich, Switzerland Date: 14 November 26 The International Energy Agency Photovoltaic Power Systems (IEA ) Programme would like to invite you to participate in the first of a series of international workshops concerning Finance and PV. Whether your interest is in local green fund management, industry development finance or multilateral international investment activities you may be seeking answers to questions such as: Can the current PV technology deliver on its promises? Are there sustainable markets for the products? Are the costs (and prices) competitive and in line with potential returns? Could the PV bubble burst? And naturally, where exactly do the risks and opportunities lie? visit Acknowledgements - Task 1 Experts and Authors of National Survey Reports - Authors of Trends - Task 9 and Contributors of non- countries information 9
