HYDROPOWER FROM A TO Z We have designed every type of hydropower plant in every corner of the world. In Austria alone, more than 300 experts are on stand-by to provide support for clients in every phase of their hydropower project. Furthermore, through engineering centres in Asia (Bangkok, Teheran, Delhi), Latin America (Lima) or our office in Turkey, we are able to offer our services under the most diverse of multi- national conditions. For example, in its capacity as technical consultant, owner s engineer, lender s or supplier s engineer, Pöyry is the ideal partner for the operator, the constructor, investors and suppliers. In the process, the spectrum of solutions offered extends from small hydropower plants right through to large reservoir power plants. RUN-OF-RIVER POWER PLANTS Our concepts for run-of-river power plants take all economic and ecological components into account. We evaluate hydrological and geological data, compile (economic viability) analyses of the design flow, create river diversion concepts and take charge of the flood risk management. Furthermore, our hydro- mechanical experts have a detailed understanding of the most diverse types of turbines. Bulb, Kaplan, Straflo or matrix turbines: we find out which type is best suited to your project. 6

7 PUMPED STORAGE AND RESERVOIR POWER PLANTS A glimpse at the Alps says it all: We are at home in the planning of reservoir power plants. This is particularly true for the dam types. On behalf of our clients we have developed gravity and arch dams, but also earth and concrete face rock-fill dams (CFRD) as well as roller compacted concrete (RCC) reservoir dams. Furthermore, we are able to optimise the hydraulic system in accordance with requirements and provide you with the optimal concepts for tunnels, shafts and power houses. MULTIPURPOSE schemes It is not unusual for hydropower plants to develop as an extension of existing or new plants, which primarily serve for irrigation, the supply of tap water, flood protection or other purposes. For each of these variants, Pöyry is able to show possible ways in which these plants are also able to generate electricity. The combination of conventional know-how and special Pöyry experience in the area of hydropower thereby creates decisive addedvalue for our clients. SMALL HYDROPOWER PLANTS On account of their reduced size, the importance of small hydropower for sustainable electricity generation is often underestimated. At the same time, the share of small hydropower plants in global electricity production is roughly as high as that of other renewable energy sources. The construction of such power plants demands just as much attention as the large plants, and requires sound technical skills. Here, relying upon Pöyry means relying upon first-class hydropower know-how that is sought after throughout the world. 7

9 THERMAL POWER PLANTS We plan all manner of thermal power plants for our clients. Our core competence lies in large-scale, cogeneration plants for heat and power, alternative fuel recycling plants, as well as district heating and cooling. We have expertise in all important energy carriers, such as gas, coal, lignite, wood and residual materials, as well as in liquid fuels. We have international experience in the most diverse of fuel burning technologies, such as gas turbine power plants, pulverised coal firing, fluidised bed combustion or grate firing. PROJECT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT DEVELOPMENT Brazi Power Plant (Romania) Compilation of the feasibility study with an analysis of variants, submission planning and the tender documents for a combined-cycle power plant. Conducting of negotiations and construction. The 2+1 power plant site comprises two gas turbine generating units which supply process steam to both a joint steam turbine generating set and the refinery. Villach South 220/110kV (Austria) Planning of the Villach South transformer station as a 220/110kV substation. In the process, consideration was given to a gradual project realisation. Upon completion, the required space for 220kV is designed for 11 switch bays, 2 busbars and 1 auxiliary busbar support. The 110kV switchgear has been conceived with 13 switch bays with 3 busbars and 1 auxiliary busbar. Pumped Storage in Europe Changing the energy forms into renewable energies enables the development of pumped storage power plants in Central Europe. Site selection, optimisation, feasibility studies and submission plans with machine variants were developed for numerous projects in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. 13

14 Our References TENDER Design TENDER Design TENDER Design Simmering BKW4 Power Plant (Austria) Compilation of a feasibility study, an analysis of variants, 3D plant planning, as well as the submission planning including coordination of the Environmental Impact Declaration and compilation of the tender documents for a combined cycle power plant with district heat extraction. The main focus in the planning lay on the integration in the existing power plant fleet. Waldeck II Expansion of pumped storage power plant Waldeck II with an underground power cavern and a waterway. The project comprises the waterway components with new inlet/outlet structure at the lower reservoir, cavern facilities with access tunnels, auxiliary tunnels and energy transmission. A pumped turbine unit with a capacity of 300 MW was installed in the new power cavern. Incir Hydropower Plant (Turkey) Optimisation of the feasibility study, compilation of planning for the tender procedure and the associated documents for a 160 MW run-of-river power plant with a 150-m-high, arched, roller compacted concrete dam (RCC dam) including diversion structure, power house, electromechanical equipment and spillway. Detailed Design Detailed Design Detailed Design Reisseck II Complete detailed design for Reisseck II pumped storage power plant: preliminary study, EID/EIA submission planning, tender, guideline and detailed design. Furthermore, Pöyry took charge of the coordination of building construction and electro-mechanical installation, project management, scheduling and local site supervision. Bisamberg 380/220kV Expansion of the 380kV installation planned by Pöyry Energy with four bays (2*lines, 2*300MVA transformers). At the same time, a partial renewal of the 220kV switchgear and the 110kV switchgear, whereby consideration is to be given to a gradual project realisation for grid operating reasons. The individual construction phases extend over three years. Beyhan Kaleköy The power plant lies on Turkey s River Murat. As the leading company of the planning consortium, Pöyry Energy is commissioned with the detailed design of the power house and the examination of the planning of further structures (overflow, inlet structure, penstock, bottom outlet, diversion structure, switchgear etc.). 14

15 PROJECT construction PROJECT Construction PROJECT Construction Pfaffenau Waste Incineration Plant For Pfaffenau waste incineration plant (Austria), a 240,000 t/a household waste incineration with steam turbine and district heating extraction, the project management, installation monitoring as well as supervision of commissioning was carried out by PÖYRY. Novakovici Power Plant Complete planning, procurement and assembly of the electrical and control equipment of a small hydropower plant in Bosnia for KELAG, the Carinthian energy service provider. Among the services provided were basic engineering, detailed engineering, CAD documentation and programming, as well as the procurement, installation and commissioning of the plants. Casimcea Wind Farm Romania, 100 MW During the course of the wind farm construction, the site management was made available for the construction and electro-technical disciplines, especially for monitoring construction of the 43 wind turbines with the associated deep foundation structures, the access routes, the three transformer stations and the internal wind farm cabling. PROJECT Construction Operation AND MAINTENANCE Operation AND MAINTENANCE Salzburg Railway Station From a border station into a through station: Pöyry Energy is undertaking the local construction supervision for the redesigning of one of Austria s largest railway stations. It is being created with a new, nine-track through station with broader underground passage. In addition, the railway bridges were renewed over Plainstrasse, Rainerstrasse and the Nelböck viaduct. Air Quality Monitoring Station, Carinthia For the air quality monitoring station in Carinthia, PÖYRY carried out the servicing, repair works and fault rectification, the dismantling, transfer and recommissioning of mobile monitoring stations, as well as control of the data recording and data transmission. This is used to measure the SO 2, O 3, N/NO 2, NO x, as well as the CO pollution in the air. Hydro Information Systems Pöyry develops hydrological information systems and hydraulic models for the optimisation of the power plant operation. This includes power plant simulators for the training of maintenance personnel, as well as inflow rate forecast systems for power plant application planning and the energy trade; online and offline systems are developed in accordance with client requirements. 15
