3 Distributed supply solutions become more and more important. Complex supply tasks demand excellent technological system solutions. Up to now energy consumers have been supplied for the most part by far away power stations. This supply structure can be effectively supplemented by combined heat and power procedures and the use of local and renewable energy sources. Distributed, relatively small supply units are consumer-oriented and reduce energy losses. Waste heat use and the reduction of transmission losses mean an increase in efficiency in energy supply. deenet has set itself the target to further develop distributed energy supply systems and meet the challenges of the future: By emphasizing personal responsibility for the region and implementing a consistent sustainability-oriented approach. In the past 25 years an extensive expertise in the areas of distributed energy technology and energy efficiency has been developed and implemented in the region North Hesse. Successful commercial companies, Kassel University and the associated research institutions have occupied themselves with different topics ranging from distributed energy plants, their integration into existing supply systems, sustainable building, and rational energy use to climate efficient production methods. Against this background the Kompetenznetzwerk Dezentrale Energietechnologie e. V. (deenet) had been founded by more than 100 companies, research institutions and service providers. A main focus is on the area of electrical systems technology, i.e. control and operation of distributed plants and their integration into electrical supply systems. Due to the ever increasing importance of rational and resource protecting use of energy, integrated systems solutions which integrate in addition to distributed energy supply also technical solutions for heat and cold become increasingly the focus of attention. This leads to a growing demand for innovative system solutions ranging from integrated supply of individual objects and housing developments to the supply of entire regions. Therefore the network aims at connecting the existing scientific resources of the areas energy optimised building, solar supported heating, cooling and process heat as well as climate efficient production with the competencies and developed cooperation structures in the area electrical systems technology. The efficient management of electricity and of heating - has never paid off as quickly as at the present time due to the current price situation. Pay-back time for investments in energy efficiency technologies is currently on the average 20% shorter than even three years ago. deenet supports producers to grab the chance to reduce their energy consumption. A main field of deenet s competence is the electrical systems technology with the research of Kassel s solar institute ISET. ISET occupies itself with the integration of distributed energy plants into existing electricity grids and into new ones as well as with special questions of energy conditioning. Currently energy is mainly supplied by large central power stations where only a small part of the applied energy is converted to electricity. In the future there will be, however, more and more distributed plants with CHP with high efficiency. The existing systems will be supplemented consumer-oriented by plants for the use of renewable energies. Partner ISET One of the most important research partners of the deenet is the Institut für Solare Energieversorgungstechnik e.v. (ISET e. V. Institute for Solar Energy Supply Technology). About 140 scientists are occupied with application-oriented research in the fields of wind energy, photovoltaics, use of bio mass as well as hydro power and marine energy. Dipl.-Ing. 8 In the deenet more than 100 companies, research institutes and service providers have joined forces to develop under one roof systems solutions of distributed energy technology and energy efficiency. Thus deenet constitutes a unique concentration of a university, institutes and innovative companies covering the complete supply chain from research and development to planning, designing, production, and operation to education and further training. In the area of electrical systems technology for distributed supply systems the success of the network which became already active before the actual foundation has been increasingly demonstrated in resulting products, company turnovers and jobs. SMA Solar Technology AG e.g. had been founded 25 years ago as a spin-off of Kassel University and is currently market leader of systems technology for solar power generation in Europe. Currently SMA has 2,000 employees at its Kassel site as well as other branches worldwide. The network also succeeded in integrating the company Viessmann Werke (based in the North Hessian town Allendorf) in order to develop new products and services for integrated systems solutions (electricity, head, and cold). This company occupies itself intensively with the development of innovative heating and energy systems. During the past years we have succeeded in extending the network successively by partners who will help us to achieve the desired thematic increase of network competence by the topics energy optimised building, building services and energy efficiency. Important new members of the networks in this connection are the ZUB/ Fraunhofer-Institut für Bauphysik, upp Fachgebiet Umweltgerechte Produkte und Prozesse of Kassel University, Wagner & Co. Solartechnik (solar technology) or the company Köhler & Ziegler GmbH.
