The Background of Mahasawat WTP Clean water for consumption it a necessary for healthy living of the public The 1 st conprehensive long term master plan for Water Supply System and Distribution of Metropolitan Bangkok and its viciniti cover 30 year period The Master plan included the setting up of the Bangkhen Water Treatment Plant and the expansion of production capacity to serve the east bank of the Chao Phraya River that was expected to grow rapidly
The Background of Mahasawat WTP At half way point(1985), the west bank of the Chao Phraya River area of Bangkok Metropolis had a greater growth rate and the population had increased much faster than planned for MWA fully aware of the expected short fall of raw water from the Chao Phraya River Then the Thachin and Mae Klong Rivers had the potential to become the new raw water sources for tap water production
Mahasawat WTP Newest and largest WTP serving the west bank of Chao Phraya River Total 8 phases(start from 1996), each phase can deliver 400,000 m3 of water per day Full capacity(expected to complete by 2017) 3,200,000 m3 of water per day
Mahasawat WTP Source of Raw Water : In the Beginning(Phase 1 & 2) : Thachin River Later on(phase 3 and so on ): Mae Klong River

Overview of MWA Problem and Challenge Upcoming Water supply projects Future Water Supply management policies
1. Demand Increasing vs. Water Conservation 2. Raw Water Quality Deterioration 3. Raw Water Quantity 4. Disasters & Climate Changes 5. Service Coverage 6. Non-revenue Water
Main factors affecting MWA Climate change in term of rainfall. Annual rainfall in Thailand differs but tend to decrease in general.(thailand Environment Institute: TEI) Degradation of water sources for consumption due to various factors such as increase of population, destruction of forests which are the water source, pollution from communities and industrial factories, as well as global warming. These factors adversely affect both the quantity and the quality of water sources and such effects are likely to become more severe in the future

THANK YOU
Problems and Rationale MWA is facing environmental and natural conservation problems as follow: I. The population growth as well as urbanization has also required more water for domestic use is becoming more and scarce over time. People normally use water with less conservation awareness for water saving and quality. II. Deterioration of water resources quality is also a problem. Due to growing industrialization and urbanization, solid as well as liquid waste generated in urban areas has been increasing. III. The quantity of water resource, MWA has been allocated the raw water from Chao Phraya river is about 60 m3/s and from Maeklong dam is about 45 m3/s by RID which is the organization have a duty to allocate the raw water to the consumers. IV. Non Revenue Water, Water loss is water which is lost in distribution system at leakage point on ground and under ground. MWA realized the importance of decreasing water loss and has continued reducing water loss activities.(26% in 2010 until 20% in 2017)
