7 Renewable Energy in Lower Saxony Niedersachsen where the wind blows! Lower Saxony is ranked number one for renewable energy in Germany with around 4,800 companies employing over 50,000 > 40,000 employees in wind industry alone (25% of Germany s total employees in the Wind industry) > 60% of Niedersachsen s electricity needs come from renewable sources (of which 60% wind and 30% biogas) Installed onshore wind capacity exceeded 10 GW in 2017 (20% of Germany s total onshore Wind installations) Corresponding to our Wind Energy Ordinance, Lower Saxony has potential for additional 10 GW onshore wind installations
8 Renewable Energy in Lower Saxony Companies along the whole value added chain of Wind Indutry! SMEs from Lower Saxony were pioneers of Windenergy Technology in the 80s and 90s (e.g. Aloys Wobben, founder of ENERCON and Franz Tacke, founder of Tacke Windtechnik, now GE Renewable Energy) Manufacturing Wind Turbines, Blades, Towers and Foundations, Part Suppliers Engineering Services Planning, Design, Measuring and Forecast, Operation and Maintenance, Construction Logistic Services Harbors, Shipping, Recruiting Safety and Certification, Training and Education, Legal and Financial Services Utilities and Utility Suppliers Research and Development
