Cunt staff and cnsultants prvided an verview f the results f the climate change vulnerability assessment, as well as draft climate adaptatin strategies. The attendees were invited t ask questins and prvide feedback n these tpics. The tw wrkshps were held at the fllwing venues: February 6, p.m. Arden-Dimick Library 891 Watt Avenue, Sacrament, CA February 9, p.m. Jean Harvie Cmmunity Center River Rad, Walnut Grve, CA The fllwing is a summary f the cmments prvided by attendees at bth the February 6 th and 9 th public wrkshps, rganized by tpics discussed in the presentatin. This includes verbal cmments prvided during the large grup discussin as recrded by the facilitatin team, as well as individual cmment cards submitted during and after the wrkshps. Fr instance, New Hampshire seems t use less pavement in their public spaces. Is there a place in the Cunty fr a change f mindset? It s healthier fr humans t walk n varius surfaces. There shuld be a pilt prgram n lw and/r permeable pavement dne at a Cunty facility. Make preventin f tree tpping a pririty and enfrce laws against it. Sacrament Cunty shuld d mre abut tree tpping. The Sacrament Tree Fundatin nly cares abut putting saplings int the grund and des nt care abut preventing tree tpping. Install rf verhangs because it is cheap, permanent, and very effective in keeping buildings cl. Prvide incentives and mney fr landlrds t weatherize hmes. D nt allw tree remval withut replacement. Update recmmended list f species t be thse suitable fr pst 2050 temperatures. Offer residents the pprtunity t hst mitigatin trees frm cmmercial prjects. Address the tensin between slar and trees. Sacrament shuld rent rf tps and install green rfs. If it increases real estate value, then the cmpanies wh wn it will want t jin. Enfrce landscaping requirements when a business seeks a permit. Fr instance, the Fultn Avenue Plan requires all new cnstructin t plant trees and shrubbery. Hwever, several new businesses with new cnstructin have skipped the landscaping. Fultn is a dead area and trees and/r shrubs wuld make it mre welcming.

Cnsider the use f zne in washing machines rather than detergent fr residential use. This prvides fr cleaner greywater that can be used directly n landscaping and ther uses. PG&E has prvided rebates fr industrial use. Cnsider residential use. De-silt existing reservirs t prvide mre water strage space. Wrk with Sacrament Tree Fundatin. Prvide a frum fr varius parties such as Green Acres, Master Gardeners, etc. t infrm n best landscaping fr lw water use, climate adaptatin. Find a way t fill reservirs with the high water in rivers. The water is verfilling the rivers and ging t the bay instead f being captured in reservirs. Encurage mre planting and cmmunity gardens. Reduce water use in cmmunity. Distribute mre cmpst bins. Cnsider equity in water metering csts between residential and cmmercial. Use advice frm cmmunities in high heat areas (Arizna fr example) t understand hw t plan fr increased heat. Address the grwing cncerns abut water supply and the diversity f crp types. The Cunty has adpted an urban agriculture rdinance. Diverse crps mean mre habitats. Eating meat increases water cnsumptin. Increasing river water capacity thrugh dredging? Address the mvement f where agricultural crps can be grwn due t climate change. Water restrictins shuld cntinue even thugh the drught is easing.

4 Page 4 Think abut ppulatin grwth in terms f water use. The impact f the current drught n the 1960 ppulatin wuld nt be nearly as significant. Incentivize residential greywater and educate t prevent unintended cnsequences (sil damage frm saps). WILDFIRE Wildfire leads t ersin and water quality issues. SEA LEVEL RISE/FLOODING Address the cncerns abut the increasing amunt f melting ice and its effects n sea level. Use biswales t amelirate flding f streets. Mre methds t capture excess fld water using pumps. Walnut Grve has an existing issue f their grund water and sewage mixing, causing sewer system backups. Climate change will further perpetuate this issue. Create emergency evacuatin plans by crdinating with ther jurisdictins. Strategically plan and upgrade infrastructure by efficiently using funds. Prepare fr refugees frm the Bay Area and the Delta. GENERAL/OTHER Study which adaptatin measures prvide the greatest impact with the least participatin. Encurage peple t take persnal respnsibility. Emergency evacuatin plans, crdinate with ther jurisdictins Think thrugh infrastructure planning and spending. Upgrade infrastructure strategically. Aging rental prperties shuld be required t upgrade and renvate t reduce energy requirements renters and climate benefit. Divest mney frm fssil fuel cmpanies. Meeting Summary Page 5 Slar is imprtant but currently the cmpanies selling them are putting their lng-term cntracts as a lien n the prperty first psitin it is causing prblems when the wner wants t sell. It shuld be assumed the cst is with the purchaser. Putting the slar in first psitin is unattractive when there is a need t finance it. Retrfit existing cmmercial buildings and landscaping. Incentivize businesses and prperty wners Upgrade cunty-wned facilities Cnsider slar water heaters. Mre infill develpment. Less expansin. Dense husing saves precius farmland and preserves natural habitats. It als reduces GHGs due t lng cmmutes. Send the message t supervisrs that increasing ppulatin means that there will be an increase in greenhuse gases. Rebrand Sacrament as a green cmmunity
