2 A proud history, an exciting future The market leader We offer a complete one-stop shop for the electricity and associated industries - from site assessment to collection and dismantling, degassing, recycling and disposal. Our aim is to simplify the whole process for our customers by using our vast range of skills and experience. We are by far the largest specialist electrical plant recycling company in the UK, and this is reflected by our long-term contracts with most of the regional electricity companies such as Scottish and Southern Energy, UK Power Networks, Electricity Northwest, Scottish Power and Northern Powergrid. We are also an approved industry supplier and work for all the power stations in the UK, National Grid and EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Limited. C Soar & Sons was established over 60 years ago by Clarence Soar as a general scrap merchant. He soon moved into working with scrap cable and dismantling electrical equipment resulting from war times and the mining industry, before progressing into working with the regional electricity companies and various power stations. The business remains entirely family owned, being run by the second and third generations. A 5 million investment to redevelop our site and state-of-the-art equipment indicates our complete commitment to the future needs of the electricity industry.

3 Our specialist processes Over the years C Soar & Sons has dealt with every shape and size of electrical plant and dismantled transformers from 50kg up to 670 tonnes. We have also carried out works at numerous coal and nuclear power stations along with distribution and primary substations throughout the UK. We offer you the highest standard of dismantling/ removal work and all materials removed from site will be transported to our licensed premises in Barnsley and handled by our trained operators. Plant is weighed, counted, sorted and placed into different bunded areas. All transformer oil that arrives on site is tested for PCB contamination. Units filled with SF6 gas are quarantined for de-gassing and decontamination. PCB-free transformer oil is recycled for various uses such as base oil for other applications. Equipment is then dismantled, with recovered materials sent for recycling. The whole process is carried out in accordance with the appropriate regulations and with all the required documentation for the collection, removal, dismantling and disposal of hazardous waste. All works are carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Environmental Protection Act 1990, Special Waste Regulations 1996 and LOLER We have UKAS accreditation to ISO9001:2000, OHSAS and ISO14001.

4 Investing in you, investing in our future C Soar & Sons continually invest heavily in our operation and equipment, all of which is fully owned by the business. This includes: A fleet of flat-bed trailers Tractor units with 40-tonne/metre HIAB-type lorry-mounted cranes Tractor units with 65-tonne/metre HIAB-type lorry-mounted crane for heavier equipment 32-tonne roll on roll off skip wagons complete with numerous skips specifically designed and built for transporting electrical equipment 360 material handlers, specifically designed for the waste industry A 60-tonne heavy duty crawler crane A gas chromatograph for PCB analysing A state-of-the-art SF6 processing facility 50-ton capacity digital weighbridges.

5 Our environment is in safe hands As a producer of hazardous waste you will be aware that you have a duty and a legal requirement to ensure that waste is disposed of correctly. C. Soar & Sons is known for its expertise in maximising the re-use and recycling of electrical waste to minimise the impact on the environment. We collect in excess of 10,000 tonnes of redundant electrical equipment every year. Of this, nearly 98% is dismantled and recycled, meaning only 2% of waste generated at our premises is sent for landfill - no other operator in our industry can boast such a high recycling rate. All HGVs in our fleet have reduced pollution certificates and euro 4, 5 and 6 specification engines to minimise their impact on the environment. This has reduced our carbon footprint to that of a small mini-cab business operating in the local area. We are one of only a handful of companies in the UK that are approved and authorised by HMRC as a bonded oil distributor. We have the most comprehensive and up-to-date Environmental Permit in the industry, taking full account of all the latest standards such as the WEEE and the Hazardous Waste Regulations. We are a registered waste carrier and broker which allows us to collect all types of waste, including hazardous waste such as transformers and switchgear. The company has the facility to remove, store and process 160,000 litres of used insulating oil. All tanks are inspected regularly by the Environment Agency and we are proud to have the lowest EA OPRA score rating in our industry. We are ISO accredited. Waste Carrier and Broker Reg.
