ASYE learning agreement, p.1 of 13 Assessed and Supported Year in Employment Learning agreement Employer logo can be inserted here This form is intended for electronic completion. Answer spaces will expand to accommodate text. It is recommended that you save copies each time the form is updated, observing also your organisation s data policy. NEDAS Newly qualified social worker HCPC registration no: Anya Chadbourne Xxxxxxx Date of qualification 20/7/12 Employer Name of line manager Name of supervisor/assessor (if different from line manager) Nether Edge Domestic Abuse Service (NEDAS) Marian Campbell Laura Stephenson Date ASYE commenced Date set for 3 month review Date set for 6 month review Date set for 9 month review Date set for Final Meeting Date for final submission of evidence An introduction to this agreement, including information about eligibility and roles and responsibilities, is downloadable from (see section ASYE 3: Support and assessment).

ASYE learning agreement, p.2 of Supervision See note 2a. Further information can be found in the Standards for Employers and Supervision Framework accessible at Supervision will be provided by: (See note 2b) Supervision sessions will be scheduled as follows: First six weeks of employment: Case management/line management supervision by Marian Reflective social work supervision and supervision in relation to the assessment of the ASYE by Laura Anya will receive weekly supervision with Marian as part of her induction to the service (this is part way through and is working well). Subsequently supervision will be provided in a range of ways, as follows: Line management supervision After the initial induction period, Anya will have monthly supervision with Marian for an hour and a half per month. This will cover line management issues. Peer supervision Reflective case discussions take place at the monthly support workers meeting, which Anya will attend. Anya will also attend an NQSW Action Learning Set which will meet 6 times across her ASYE. Social work supervision Anya will have monthly supervision with Laura, for one and a half hours. These sessions will be held at NEDAS. All dates for the year to be set up as soon as possible. These sessions will focus on professional issues and progress with the ASYE. It was agreed that with the arrangements for Anya s supervision being diverse, the effectiveness of this needs to be reviewed regularly. Anya s experiences of supervision will therefore be discussed at each review meeting. Marian and Laura will both attend all review meetings

ASYE learning agreement, p.3 of 13 Week 7 six month review: Following six month review: Supervision will include: (See note 2b) As above As above Supervision with Marian: Line management supervision follows an organisational pro forma: Check-in/update since last session Caseload update Workload/Time management Annual leave Any other business Date of next session Supervision with Laura: Check-in/how are you? Social work professional development linking to the HCPC standards of proficiency and the PCF Theory and practice Feedback from people being supported Action learning set reflections Folder of evidence: progress Critical reflection on specific issues/questions/dilemmas which have arisen from work and the development of the folder of evidence Any other business Action Learning Set The session will begin with a workshop focusing on specific domains of the PCF This will be followed by an action learning set. Each NQSW will be asked to bring a specific challenge for discussion within the action learning set. This will be facilitated by Laura. Team meetings The monthly support worker meetings generally cover items which support workers wish to bring to the sessions. Each team member is expected to bring an example of practice for discussion.

ASYE learning agreement, p.4 of 13 Changes to the agreement: Changes and actions agreed at the three month review Changes and actions agreed at the six month review 2.Workload management(see note 3) How will workload be agreed and allocated? Anya s workload is allocated and reviewed by Marian. NEDAS has an arrangement that support workers are assigned to specific rooms. Anya is assigned to two single rooms and two family rooms in the refuge. Anya will also be on the helpline rota two sessions per week. Anya will also be involved in outreach work as allocated generally support workers carry 10 cases. Anya will work with 6 cases, depending on complexity. Specify any workload management tool used by the employer and how it will be used for ASYE.(Search on workload management at for example tools.) Changes to the agreement: Changes and actions agreed at the three month review Changes and actions agreed at the six month review N/A 3(a) Professional development plan (PDP)(See note 4a) PDP completed Details Anya completed a very thorough PDP at the end of Date

ASYE learning agreement, p.5 of 13 her university programme. Laura asked Anya to review this and update it with regard to her current post. This reviewed PDP will form part of Anya s folder of evidence. A number of issues were discussed at the meeting, which should be included in the PDP review, as follows: Marian feels that Anya would benefit from developing her knowledge of domestic abuse interventions. Anya agreed that this would be useful and said that she would be particularly interested in considering current research on the impact of domestic violence on children. Anya would like to develop her group work skills Anya has had some limited experience of this but NEDAS runs a range of groups which Anya will become involved with. Anya would like to further develop her interpersonal skills particularly in dealing with complex and challenging individuals. Anya also feels that she would benefit from becoming more assertive when: - Dealing with people s responses to her looking very young - Challenging other professionals - Advocating on behalf of clients - Dealing with uninformed views about domestic abuse Anya completed her final placement in a statutory safeguarding team. She would like to build on this previous experience and develop practice applicable to safeguarding in a voluntary agency. Anya said that she would like to feel more confident in using theory in practice. PDP reviewed (3 months)

ASYE learning agreement, p.6 of 13 PDP reviewed (6 months) PDP reviewed (end of ASYE) 3(b) Protected development time(see note 4b) Set out here the specific arrangements in place for undertaking development work, including time allowed by employer and when it can be taken Anya will be attending the action learning sets arranged by the partnership. Anya will also have a full day per month as study time. Changes and actions agreed at the three month review Changes and actions agreed at the six month review 4.Assessment Collection of evidence (See note 5) Record the types of evidence that will be expected, and the dates when it should be provided, to inform the assessment We discussed the expectation of this ASYE programme, that each NQSW s completed folder of evidence will give a unique picture of their development during year and the work they have undertaken linked to their capability measured against the PCF. Each folder of evidence will share some core components for which some pro formas are available on the Skills For Care website: This Learning Agreement (LA)and all subsequent Review Meeting notes Direct Observation reports a minimum of three (spread across the year) Line manager s report and assessor s report Feedback from people being supported and carers and a reflection on this Three short reflective accounts

ASYE learning agreement, p.7 of 13 Extended piece of critically reflective writing Record of all supervision session dates + any particularly interesting pieces of learning/discussion/examples of capability/ light bulb moments as agreed by both parties and cut and pasted from supervision notes and commented on by NQSW The use of work products as evidence was discussed: Anya will share appropriately anonymised and relevant work products with Laura. The actual work products will not be included in the folder of evidence, but the evidence drawn from work products will be reflected in the portfolio through: - both Marian and Laura commenting on the quality of Anya s work products in their reports - Anya developing a short commentary and reflection on a selection of the work products discussed with Laura and this will be included in the portfolio It was agreed that Anya will share an example of a work product (generally assessments and ongoing case notes) in each session with Laura. Towards the end of the year Anya will then complete a reflective account about her development in this area. How Anya can obtain feedback was discussed. NEDAS has forms which are completed by people being supported when they are moving on from the refuge. It was agreed that these generally elicit comments about the service rather than a specific worker. However they may be useful. People who are being supported have significantly varing needs and therefore it was felt that it would not be useful to develop a standard feedback form. It was agreed that Anya would put some further thought into the best way to obtain feedback from people being supported and from other professionals. Anya will develop a feedback plan which will be reviewed and agreed in supervision with Laura. This feedback plan along with the feedback and a reflection on this will be included in Anya s folder of evidence. Feedback from people being supported was agreed as a key component of the assessed and supported year and it

ASYE learning agreement, p.8 of 13 was agreed that feedback would underpin all of the evidence included in the folder for example feedback should form a contributory part of the reflective pieces and where reflections on work products are included consideration should be given to any feedback which was received as part of the work reported on. Dates for the completion of evidence were agreed in line with the review process as follows: By three month review (8.1.13) One direct observation will have been completed Anya will have developed the feedback plan At least one anonymised work product will have been shared in supervision and the narrative and reflection on this will have been completed By six month review (9.4.13) Second direct observation will have been completed Feedback will be gathered in line with the feedback plan A further anonymised work product will have been shared in supervision and the narrative and reflection on this will have been completed By nine month review (9.7.13) Further feedback will have been gathered in line with the feedback plan A further anonymised work product will have been shared in supervision and the narrative and reflection on this will have been completed By final meeting ( ) Final direct observation will have been carried out Further feedback will have been gathered and a reflection on the feedback and the effectiveness of the feedback plan will have been completed A further anonymised work product will have been shared in supervision and the narrative and reflection on this will have been completed The extended critical writing will have been completed The assessor report will have been completed The line manager report will have been completed

ASYE learning agreement, p.9 of 13 Further it was agreed that Anya will write a short reflection in preparation for each supervision with Laura. At the final meeting three of these will be selected to go into the folder of evidence. Changes and actions agreed at the three month review Changes and actions agreed at the six month review The folder of evidence is to be submitted on

ASYE learning agreement, p.10 of 13 Review (See note 6) Record how ASYE reviews will be linked to employer s probation and appraisal processes NEDAS probation and appraisal process is as follows: 6 week induction followed by review (this has already been successfully achieved) 6 month probationary period followed by a review and formal letter Appraisal at 9-12 months. At each ASYE review meeting we will discuss Anya s progress with regard to the employer and appraisal process. Anya s progress with the ASYE will be discussed within the probationary and appraisal sessions. Assessment process (See note 7) Record the arrangements the employer uses (e.g. in partnerships, etc.) to quality assure assessments. NEDAS is part of an independent sector employer partnership. Previously they have operated the NQSW independently but this year they have chosen to access the ASYE via this partnership. The ASYE is being delivered by the partnership and the University of Newtown. Quality assurance of assessments will be via: The ASYE internal moderation process all folders of evidence moderated by a panel of voluntary sector employers, a local authority representative and a University of Newtown representative. The College of Social Work quality assurance self-evaluation process. Clarify how the employer and NQSW will deal with any disagreements over decisions It was noted in the meeting that NEDAS has comprehensive organisational grievance, disciplinary and whistle-blowing procedures. A discussion took place about how any disagreements about assessment decisions will be addressed. It was

ASYE learning agreement, p.11 of 13 agreed that any disagreements should initially be raised between Anya and Laura. If the disagreement cannot be addressed then the partnership lead (Hilary Farrell) will become involved. Anya and Laura should feel able to discuss any disagreements but should also feel able to contact Hilary directly.
