2 Who we are I.LOG was founded in 2004 to promote and develop innovative logistic initiatives, engineering and software development. I.LOG has a particular know-how in the road and rail transport, and in the design of logistic infrastructures, and holds the license of the METROCARGO concept and device patent.

4 Innovative intermodal logistics concept I.Log aims to improve intermodal transport and allows it to become more flexible, fast and open to all shippers. Today the current problems of intermodality are: Large volumes needed (from A to B) Regular schedules Recurrent destinations Large areas needed A Direct links (without stop and go) C D B Only the big shippers are able to make full trains. Intermodality is too rigid for SMEs: it s difficult create multi-customers trains.

5 Innovative intermodal logistics concept The innovation is to view goods like passengers creating a intermodal network between terminals through fast and cheap stop and go of the trains. Stop and go must be: STOP AND GO STOP AND GO A C D B - fast and parallel to the principal line: like highway stop! - higly automated - adaptable to any kind of train and container type - under the electric line of locomotors: without shunting! To realize this concept it s necessary to have innovative technological advances!

6 Innovative technological advances MetroCargo is a smart electro-mechanic system that allows charging and discharging containers from a train in only a few minutes. A key feature is its adaptability to any kind of train and container type WITH NO NEED OF SPECIAL MODIFICATIONS TO THE WAGONS NOR THE CONTAINERS. Optical character recognition (OCR) technology allows the system to read a train composition as it enters the station and even the identifiers of each single container. Automatic arms switch the pins of the train.

8 Investments Network terminals (stop and go) A single terminal requires: 3 to 5 M according to size Terminals have a modular structure and it s possible a gradual expanding with flow increases. Terminals can be located in disused railroad areas Port terminals (terminals between different railway gauge) A single terminal requires: 5 to 15 M according to size Terminals have a modular structure and it s possible a gradual expanding Metrocargo in port dry port connection allows: high speed translation of load units greater use of the railway cost reduction for handling and no shunting reduced loading time

9 First Metrocargo Plant First Metrocargo plant was installed and tested in Vado Ligure (Savona - ITALIA) in collaboration with Port Authority of Savona and APM Terminals Port Authority choose to use Metrocargo in the railway area to connect the new Platform (depth of -22 meters; managed by APM Terminals) with dry ports.

10 First Metrocargo Plant The plant was installed in july 2009 and tests phase was completed successfully in july Tests involved 1600 moves, equivalent to handling 40 trains, or 2400 TEU.
