1 Organisational and Purpose Context This position operates within City Projects Survey Section and reports to the Principal Surveyor. City Projects is responsible for the investigation, design and delivery of a range of public infrastructure projects to meet community expectations. The key function of this role is to work as a team member or Survey Team Leader in carrying out Engineering, Hydrographic and Property surveys on Council projects and for external clients. 2 Key Selection Criteria Essential This position is broadbanded and all requirements can be found in Appendix A. The criteria given below is the highest required for the Survey Technician in the qualification category. 1. Completed Certificate or Associate Diploma or Diploma in Surveying or equivalent with 4 years experience in Surveying. 2. Competent in the use of modern Surveying equipment such as Robotic Total Station and also Survey software such as Civilcad. 3. Experience working within a Civil construction environment. 4. Demonstrated ability to lead a team carrying out minor Engineering surveys. 5. Demonstrated ability to review and conduct analysis on data from field surveys and office calculations. 6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively alone and/or as part of a team. 7. Class C drivers license with ability to drive a manual vehicle. 8. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. 9. Ability to perform physical tasks as a requirement of undertaking survey field work. 10. Demonstrated problem solving skills. 11. Workcover General Induction Certificate. programs. Good interpersonal skills. Desirable NSW Maritime Boat drivers licence 3 Duties The duties shown below are the highest required for the Survey Technician at Grade 11. 1. Leading a survey team carrying out surveys for ; Preparation of Development Restriction Certificates, Investigations for design and construction of drainage structures and kerb & gutter, Minor engineering surveys, Location of service utilities, Quality control on various construction types including road in-situ stabilisation. 2. Review and analysis related to above projects including download of data, preparation of plans and associated reports. 3. Traffic control on work-sites, including selection of Traffic Control Plans, placement of signs and supervision of traffic control personnel. 4. Working with a survey team, including; Use of survey instruments and data recorders, Manual aspects of the survey work eg placement of marks, clearing of lines, levelling and manual handling of materials, Operation of small plant and equipment. 5. Follow established safety procedures and practices including preparation of Survey Certification Report. 6. Perform calibration checks on survey equipment. 7. 9. Supervision of external contractors and plant operators. 10. Management of resources required to carry out survey work. 11. Liaise with relevant supervisors and customers about project and job details. 12. Undertake OH&S requirements on work sites, including; Site risk assessments and associated checklists, Site procedures identified and implemented, Tool box meeting undertaken with all site workers, Field work checklists. 13. As required, act as Engineering Surveyor. 4 Relevant Position Information Physical duties are a requirement of this position. Council operates on a Flexi-time system which includes City Projects Survey. May be required to work outside the nominated work hours. At times may be required to travel outside the normal working area. Outdoor 38 hour week conditions apply. Grade at Appointment and Progression The commencement grade will be determined in consultation with the successful applicant prior to the formal offer of employment being finalised. The process will require the applicant to demonstrate competency and achievements in the duties applicable to the position. See Appendix A for performance Matrix and more information. Satisfactory work performance is a requirement to progress to the next grade irrespective of experience gained. Review of the occupant s placement in the broad banded scale will take place after 6 months, and review of skill step each 6 months, thereafter. Progression through the grades will be contingent upon successful evaluation against Duties of the Position and Performance matrix. Ongoing staff development and coaching will be a component of the position. All technicians in this Broadbanding will be classified as Outdoor Staff as defined in the LMCC Enterprise Agreement. Grade 8 11 Survey Technician Description Assistance Limited assistance Independently Minor surveys Definition A senior staff member would be overseeing work performed. Some tasks would be set for the technician to undertake of his own responsibility and this would be checked by a senior member of staff on completion. Technician would be allocated projects to organise, time manage and perform. Technician would liaise and check with senior staff when assistance was required.
