3 The LOST Art of Being Neighborly LoveWhereYouLiveATX A neighborhood is more than just a location or area, or lines on a map. It s more than blocks or rows of houses and apartments. More than a single story or even 30. A neighborhood is a unique collection of people. And the most important element of a neighborhood is not its proximity to downtown or to shopping but its neighbors. Neighbors watch out for each other. They help each other. They lend things like tools or advice. And how neighbors interact and connect with each other can make the difference of living in a great place and a ho hum place. Great neighborhoods are safe, interesting, interactive and fun. Or that s how it once was...and can be again. Most of us don t know our neighbors, or what a good neighbor is. It takes effort to get to know them, but that effort can pay for itself many times over. Help us discover the lost art of being neighborly and what that can mean to our community. Let s put the neighbor back in neighborhood. The main mission of Phase 1 of the campaign is to educate the Greater Austin community of the benefits of what a good neighbor is and to make people want to get to know theirs better. This collaborative effort was inspired by the book, The Art of Neighboring, written by Jay Pathak & Dave Runyon. P 1

4 Logomark The Love...Where You Live logomark is a unique typeface and should not be altered in any way. Below are various executions of the logomark. Color Palette A family of blue colors was selected for Phase 1 of the Love Where You Live ATX campaign. Blue is known as a pleasing, friendly color, which reflects the tone and personality of the campaign. The colors are Light Blue, Medium Blue and Royal Blue. See below for color breakdown. 5 Typography The font family, Stag, has been selected for the campaign typeface. Typography is just one of the elements within a visual brand which we are trying to establish. 6 Imagery/Photography The main visual or image of campaign photos should be of people. People are what define neighborhoods. Make sure there is plenty of diversity in ethnicity as well as ages. The brand look for the Phase 1 campaign includes photos of people on a white background. This reduces the visual noise of a background and allows for more focus on the main message. Below are some of the current Phase 1 photos of the campaign. P 4

7 LoveWhereYouLiveATX Outdoor One of the main executions of Phase 1 of the campaign is the use of outdoor advertising. Some might know it as billboards. Outdoor executions come in several sizes. The campaign uses two different sizes: large vinyl posters along main highways with complementary smaller-sized boards in more urban areas. Neighbors lend a hand. And un martillo. 8 Radio Another execution of Phase 1 of the campaign is radio. Below is the script for the radio ad. It was written as a jingle with the intention of capturing the personality and tone of the campaign of being ostentatious and friendly since it must resonate with a broad range of audiences. The melody gives a nod to Austin s folksy, playful musical scene. Singing: They re there to lend a hand lend an ear, Water the plants when you re not near, Cause that s the neighborly thing to do. When you need a sitter or need a rake, Or a cup of sugar to bake a cake, Your friendly, next-door neighbor s there for you. Reading: Do you know your neighbors? You should.
