Demographic Density: 7,270 inhabitants / Km2 (IBGE, 2007) GDP: R$ 19.4 billion (IBGE, 2006) Venda Nova It ranks 4th among Brazilian capital cities. 4 Food & Nutrition Security - Concept The Food and Nutrition Security consists in realizing the fundamental rights of all human being to regular and permanent access to quality foods, in sufficient quantity, without compromizing the access to other essential needs, and it is based in food practices which promote health and respecting cultural diversity, and they are environmentally, cultural, economically, socially sustainable. 8 Shares of Food and Nutrition Assistance are distributed on several projects with different beneficiaries s profiles: School Meals: children and teenagers between 6 and 14 years old (1 to 3 per day) Food in day care centers : children aged 4 months till 6 years old (2-3 per day) Feeding in Entities of Children Youth Socialization : children and teenargers between 6 and 14 years (1 to 3 per day) Feeding in shelters: people of all ages (1 to 3 per day) Feeding in Institutions of Elderly Long Permanence: elderly (5 per day) Assistance to Peolple in Homelessness Risk: people of all ages Malnutrition and Prevention : children aged 0 to 5 years Food Bank: people of all ages

9 SCHOOL FEEDING Partnership: MEC/FNDE, SMED, School Feeding Council 186 municipal schools 200 thousands meals /day 70 childhood education units 23 thousands meals/day. Until 3 meals/day/child. Special diets: children with feeding restrictions. Raw products or slightly processed, as well fruits and vegetables: allying with concern for quality, there is a cost control to ensure the project viability.

26 PRO- ORCHARD Pro-Orchard Project: It promotes the practice of fruit cultivation in common use and school spaces, aiming the auto supply and the enlargement and green urban areas preservation. Conditionalities: phyisical space, and someone responsible for maintenance. Procedures: Technical orientation/assistance about planting and maintenance of fruit saplings and organic compost. Partnerships: EMATER-MG, MDS. Orchards data: orchards : 48 points; Beneficiaries: 12,000 people; Saplings distributed: 852; 2012

37 CAE- Conselho de Alimentação Escolar School Food Council CONCEPT The School Food Council of Belo Horizonte (CAE/BH), is a deliberative organization, economic control and support to the execution of the National Program for School Food in Belo Horizonte. The School Food Council of Belo Horizonte (CAE/BH), was created through Municipal Decree nº , July 26, STRUCTURE Composed of seven members, of which two are representatives of the students' parents, two teachers and educational staff, two from Civil Society, one from the executive branch, so as to comply with Resolução nº 38 do FNDE. ACTIVITIES The School Food Council of Belo Horizonte (CAE/BH), aside from overseeing resources transferred, has the responsibility to control food quality products, from purchase till distribution to municipal public schools.

38 COMUSAN- Conselho Municipal de Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional Municipal Council for Food and Nutritional Security WHAT IS IT? COMUSAN-BH is a council created by the orientation of the Ministry for Social Development (MDS) and Fight against Hunger, so as to accompany development of the Zero Hunger program in Belo Horizonte. Its objective is to secure the constitutional rights of each person for food with quality and in sufficient amount throughout all phases of life. WHEN WAS IT CREATED? O COMUSAN-BH was created through Municipal Decree n , May 30, OBJECTIVE: secure the constitutional rights of each human being to eat and for food and nutritional security. It aims to work towards developing local policies, to be implemented through partnerships and initiatives of the Municipality with civil society, such as food banks, incentives for urban agriculture for personal consumption, popular restaurants, and modernization of food supply equipment. WHAT IS ITS COMPOSITION? O COMUSAN-BH is composed of 32 members, 11 governmental representatives; 11 representatives from civil society, and 10 labor representatives from the food sector.
