3 Scenario Economic and Social Importance Soybean is Brazil s main crop, both in volume and income generation, with 24 million hectares - 25% of this crop s global acreage Brazil is the world s second largest producer and exporter of soybeans, with 70 million tons for the 2010/2011 crop Soybeans represent 11% of Brazil s total exports and responsible for approximately 2.5% of the country s GNP Brazil has 250,000 rural producers in 17 states; 1.5 million direct and indirect jobs are generated Towns that traditionally grow soybeans have an Human Development Index - HDI above state and national averages

4 Scope of the Program Mission To promote and encourage economic, social and environmental management in rural properties and in the other elements of the productive chain, guaranteeing continuous improvement in Brazil s soybean production, processing and trading processes Vision To be the most effective program in the sustainable development of Brazilian soybeans Values Ethics, transparency, excellence and innovation

6 Program s Activities Publish, clarify and make the producer aware of economic, social and environmental matters Produce and distribute technical material to implement best agricultural practices Offer rural property management tools to compliance with rigorous brazilian environmental and social legislation Train multiplication agents, organize training and field days Organize an exchange of experiences among producers and establish comparative references Verify the efficiency of the actions related to implementation in the production units Publish annually the advances obtained in a statistical bulletin
