1 Central Illinois PFR BECK S King Red Study PLANTED: June 5, 2014 PREVIOUS CROP: Corn HARVESTED: October 28, 2014 TILLAGE: Fall Chisel, Spring Vertical-Till POPULATION: 165,000 seeds/a. HERBICIDE: Pre: ROWS: Four 30" Rows Post: 5 oz. Verdict 24 oz. Durango REPLICATIONS: Three (averaged) INSECTICIDE: Escalate PRODUCT TESTED: BECK 328R2 * PURPOSE: To evaluate King Red, which is designed for foliar application to soybeans. In addition to supplying nutrition to the plant, the unique fertility components of King Red with NUTROL will also have fungicidal activity. As a result, the soybean plant will experience protection from Pythium, Phytophthora Root Rot, Rhyzoctonia, Fusarium, Downey Mildew, and Powdery Mildew, along with a significant reduction in white mold. Within two weeks of application you will notice increased branching, larger root system, elongated leaves, and a healthier plant than those found in an untreated area. King Red will replace the manganese that is stripped out of the plant when glyphosate is applied to glyphosate tolerant soybeans. It will also reduce the increased levels of Fusarium that are found on the roots of glyphosate tolerant soybeans. Therefore, yield increases are achieved a high percentage of the time when King is used in a glyphosate weed control system and rainfall is normal. Treatment Bu./A. Difference Net^ Return Return on Investment Control $ gal. Foliar R $ $37.48 Bu./A. corrected to 13% moisture. ^Net return is gross income (Bu./A. x $11.20/Bu.) minus treatment cost. Return on investment is Bu./A. difference x $11.20/Bu. minus treatment cost and application cost, if applicable. $27.00/gal. Foliar Red SUMMARY: King applications at R1 provided no substantial yield losses or gains. After the cost of King Red, our return on investment was -$37.48/A. This product was used during the drought of 2012 when soybean plants were under a considerable amount of stress. and net return results were optimistic for King Red with a 4.7 Bu./A. yield increase in More research needs to be completed to fully understand the plant health and yield benefits of King Red. 1

2 Central Illinois PFR Rainfall in Inches BECK S Infusion 2.0 Study PLANTED: May 21, 2014 PREVIOUS CROP: Corn HARVESTED: October 31, 2014 TILLAGE: Fall Chisel, Spring Vertical-Till POPULATION: 34,500 seeds/a. HERBICIDE: Pre: ROWS: Four 30" Rows Post: 8 oz. Verdict, 2 oz. Zidua 32 oz. Durango REPLICATIONS: Two (averaged) INSECTICIDE: Escalate PRODUCT TESTED: Phoenix 5552EZ ** PURPOSE: To evaluate Infusion 2.0, which is a liquid sea salt solution that claims to enhance the immune system of plants and provide a boost of energy and growth. Infusion 2.0 produces energy for the plant by metabolizing biological systems such as the carbon cycle, cell respiration, the nitrogen cycle, mineralization and photosynthesis. It contains up to 90 trace elements that are proactive minerals, capable of re-energizing plants for better health. Treatment Bu./A. Difference Net^ Return Return on Investment Control $ oz. Infusion V $ $4.43 ** Phoenix brand seed is distributed by Beck s Superior Hybrids, Inc. Phoenix is a registered trademark of a Syngenta Group Company. Bu./A. and test weight corrected to 15% moisture. $3.00/A Infusion 2.0. SUMMARY: At the CILPFR Center in 2014, V5 Infusion 2.0 treatments realized 1.1 Bu./A. yield gains. However, after the cost of treatment, returns suffered a net loss of -$4.43/A. This is our second year testing Infusion 2.0, and a year ago much higher yield responses were realized at +4.8 Bu./A. with average net returns of +$17.35/A. More testing needs to be conducted to understand how Infusion works and when the optimum application timing may occur. 2

3 Central Illinois PFR BECK S Infusion 2.0 Study PLANTED: May 23, 2014 PREVIOUS CROP: Corn HARVESTED: October 11, 2014 TILLAGE: Fall Chisel, Spring Vertical-Till POPULATION: 165,000 seeds/a. HERBICIDE: Pre: ROWS: Eight 30" Rows Post: 8 oz. Verdict 32 oz. Durango REPLICATIONS: Three (averaged) INSECTICIDE: Escalate PRODUCT TESTED: BECK 335NR * PURPOSE: To evaluate Infusion 2.0, which is a liquid sea salt solution that claims to enhance the immune system of plants and provide a boost of energy and growth. Infusion 2.0 produces energy for the plant by metabolizing biological systems such as carbon cycle, cell respiration, nitrogen cycle, mineralization, and photosynthesis. It contains up to 90 trace elements that are proactive minerals capable of re-energizing plants for better health. Treatment Bu./A. Difference Net^ Return Return on Investment Control $ oz. R $ $7.48 Bu./A. corrected to 13% moisture. ^Net return is gross income (Bu./A. x $11.20/Bu.) minus treatment cost. Return on investment is Bu./A. difference x $11.20/Bu. minus treatment cost. $3.00/A. Infusion. SUMMARY: This is our first year evaluating application of Infusion 2.0 on soybeans. Statistically there was very little yield difference, as the Infusion treated soybeans yielded within 0.4 Bu./A. of the control. More trials need to be completed in the future to fully analyze the effects of Infusion 2.0 on soybeans. 3
