He stated how they have entered the angara village with the Entry Point Activities and gained the trust of the local villagers. He described the socio economic change of villagers after the intoduction of Integrated Watershed Management Programme thus resulting the behavioral change, women empowerment, improvement in the health sector and decline in the migration ratio. He informed the SCSI team about the Entry Point Activities like well renovation, dadi construction, soak pit construction, potato seed demonstration etc. According to him they have received a grant of Rs lacs towards E.P.A. work and expenditure was lacs comprising 156 activities with a full achievement. He also described the NRM activities like water harvesting structures by farm pond construction, soil conservation by gully ploughing, wasteland development by plantation of agro forestry and horticulture, ground water recharge by field bunding and percolation tank, stone bunding, loose boulder check dam etc. Subhash Kumar briefing the project description to MEL&D Team. 3
Various Activities Completed by RKM: A. Natural Resource Management: 1. Gravity Irrigation: Under this activity, the water from the mountain has been brought down at the barrel land through the gravitational force. At the origin source of water a storage tank of dimension 8 x 8 has been constructed from where the water through the pipe line around 2 kms is being collected at a various storage tank which has the storage capacity of 8000 litres of water. Earlier the farmers were depended on single croping pattern of paddy cultivation, but after the construction of Gravity Irrigation near about 100 Acres of land is being irrigated thus resulting in production of potato and tomato in a large scale. Around 30 farmers are directly getting benefit of irrigation and now they have started the various vegetable cultivation through out the year. In a nutshell, the overall livelihood of villagers have been promoted thus enhancing the the productivity of land and upliftment of living standard. Water collected at Gravity Irrigation Tank. Water collected at Gravity Storage Tank. 2. Loose Bolder Structure: For the control of soil erosion and gully formation, 10 no. of loose bolder structure costing Rs /- in totallity has been constructed. These structures are having the catchment area of 8-10 acres of land. In the construction of these structures only the labor cost has involved. This structure is a good example for vegetative engineering structure. 4
Effective Loose Boulder Structures to control the Soil Erosion. 3. Agroforestry & Horticulture: A large area of wasteland has been developed through the plantation of plants like teak, mango, guava. With the help of this plantation, the beneficiaries are getting return in form of fruits which they later on sell in the open market and earn money. Horticulture Plantation with Inter Cropping Pattern. 5
4. Artesian Well: In the Tirla Kocha Micro Watershed which is having a population of near about 25 household, is getting plentifull of water through this well. The water is flowing naturally towards the top which is being utilised for the drinking purpose, farming and even in the primary schools located near by the area. Even the secretary (Mr. Ravi Bedia) of this micro watershed has been awarded with a certificate from Drinking Water & Sanitation Department for having proper drinking and sanitation facility in his village. Artesian Well Ravi Bedia with Sanitation Certificate. B. Productivity Enhancement: 1. SRI: A productive method of Paddy Cultivation through the SRI technique is being practiced by a large number of farmers in the angara village being treated by Ram Krishna Mission, Ranchi. In this method of Paddy Cultivation, only 2 kgs of hybrid paddy is required to cover 1 acre of land. The paddy seeds are planted at a distance of 25 cms from row to row & column to column. The conoweeder is adviced to be use at a regular interval of days for the first month to control the growth of unnecessary weed. This system has a great advantage in subject to input cost, labor cost, and time as compared with the traditional method of paddy cultivation. Even the yield is 1.5 times more than the output of traditional method of paddy cultivation. Simultaneously, the fertlity of the soil also increases. 6
Paddy Cultivation through SRI Technique. A Farmer preparing the field for SRI Technique. C. Livelihood Promotion: 1. Murhi Maker: A new innovative technique for the livelihood promotion in the form of murhi making by the Self Help Group (SHG) is being adopted in the Lepsa Dhurletta Vivekanand Jalchajan Samiti. Jeevan Jyoti Mahila Samiti consisting of 12 members is carrying out the micro enterprise of murhi making with a low investment but an average profit of Rs. 1000/- per person per month. The Chairmen Ujjala Devi and Secretary Sarita Devi of Jeevan Jyoti Mahila Samiti explained how they have united and formed the group for a common goal which was duly assisted by watershed mission. In 1 hour 40 kg of murhi was being produce by the SHG s. A partial market linkage was done for the production of murhi. SHG Making Murhi for Income Generating Livelihood. 7
2. Stitching Centre: A very good livelihood support system with the assistance of Ram Krishna Mission has been estabilished at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Angara. Here the members of SHG s have been involved for professional development. In a batch strenghth of 30 members, all the essential set up kit has been made available with 4 nos. of sewing machine. The trainer Mrs. Dolly Verma provided the information about the training classes and schedule which was for 6 months. She demonstrated the garments made by the members which include child garments like frock, baba suit, ladies garments like blouse, petticoat, mens garment like kurta pyjama, shirt, pants etc. She also gave the information on market linkage for which they have arranged a buyer & seller meet on 10 th Aug,2015 in which the buyer are going to place an order of school uniforms. This activity has turned as a good example of livelihood promotion and skill development thus creating a large opportunity of livelihood for the rural people. SHG member practicing for Stitching at Stitching Centre. 3. Nursing Course: A good practice by Ram Krishna Mission in the form of Nursing Course was found at Sirka village of Angara block. The educated unemployed 25 tribal girls has been engaged in nursing courses for a professional development course in due course to earn their bread n butter. The girls were engaged in the 6 months duration GNM course in which the first 3 months was lecture class and the remaining months were practical oriented. The cost per candidate was Rs. 8
45,000/- which was fully assisted by Ram Krishna Mission under Capacity Building Programme of Integrated Watershed Management Programme. Even the students were provided with a stipend of Rs. 3000/- per month for the first 3 months. Girls pursuing GNM course of Nursing. Subhash Kumar showing Lac Cultivation. ***** THANK YOU ***** 9
